How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Health & Safety Advisor – Construction

    📍 Birmingham / West Midlands
    💷 Salary £40,000 - £50000 DOE
    🚗 Regional travel required

I am working with an established construction subcontractor that is looking to appoint a Health & Safety Advisor to support its projects across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who is comfortable working closely with site teams, challenging poor practice where necessary and helping maintain strong standards across multiple live projects.

The successful candidate will work closely with operational teams, site management and senior leadership, providing practical health and safety support rather than taking an overly corporate or purely compliance-led approach.

    The role will include:

    • Carrying out site inspections, audits and compliance checks
    • Supporting site teams with risk assessments and method statements
    • Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses
    • Providing practical health and safety advice to operational teams
    • Monitoring contractor and subcontractor compliance
    • Delivering toolbox talks and safety briefings
    • Supporting the development and improvement of company procedures
    • Producing reports and following up on corrective actions
    • Helping maintain a positive and proactive safety culture across the business

The successful candidate will ideally have:

    • Previous health and safety experience within construction
    • Experience working for a contractor or subcontractor
    • A NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate
    • Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge when required
    • A practical, site-focused approach to health and safety
    • The ability to manage their own workload across multiple projects
    • A full UK driving licence

This is a strong opportunity to join a growing construction business where health and safety is taken seriously and where the successful person will have genuine visibility and influence across the operation.

Applicants must be based within a realistic commuting distance of Birmingham and able to travel throughout the West Midlands.
