How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Policy Lead, Employment Rights and Labour Markets

    Location: London

Salary: £67,674 per annum including London Weighting rising incrementally to £68.858 (pro rata) per annum including LW

Fixed term 18-month contract, 35 hours a week. Happy to talk about flexible working.

Location - Congress House, Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LS. TUC’s flexible work policy applies, which allows working from home up to five days per fortnight.

The TUC is looking for a policy lead to contribute to our work on employment rights and wider labour market policy.

This position has been created to boost the TUC’s policy capacity at a time of significant shifts in the UK labour market. The role will support our response to both new legislation and a rapidly changing economy.

It will suit someone who is as comfortable analysing draft regulations as they are writing a briefing for our General Secretary and who has a strong commitment to delivering better outcomes for working people.

What key experience, skills, knowledge and understanding do you need?

    You will need:

Experience in evidence-based policy development on issues related to employment rights and/or labour markets

Ability in writing in a compelling and accessible style whether it is a blog for the TUC’s website or a detailed response to a government consultation

Confident skills in evaluating and communicating a range of data sources from legal material to quantitative data

If this is you, then take a look at our job description and person specification.

The TUC values a diverse workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community and from within and outside of the trade union movement.

We welcome applications from any candidate but are particularly keen to receive applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, who are underrepresented at this grade in the TUC. Therefore, if you’re BME and are interested in the post, we invite you to join an online briefing at 1 pm, on Thursday 16 July 2026 about the post, to hear about the TUC and ask questions of the recruiting manager.

Vacancy closes at 12 noon Tuesday 21 July 2026. Interview date to be confirmed.

The TUC operates an anonymised recruitment process, and names are not included during shortlisting. We don’t ask for details of educational institutions attended.
