How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Full-time position of Senior Environmental Consultant

    We are looking for an enthusiastic, practical and motivated senior environmental, water or engineering professional with proven project management experience to join our friendly, growing team.

    About Nutrient Neutral

    Nutrient Neutral Ltd. is a market leader and pioneer in the nutrient neutrality and associated environmental sectors. We are environmental problem solvers with a focus on water pollution, nutrient management and practical mitigation solutions.

    We are committed to building a company with strong ethical values and to investing in people, giving our team the tools and opportunities to do better for the environment than those who came before us.

    We believe that our team is stronger when work-life balance is respected. We are therefore open to flexible and hybrid working. We also place a high value on training, upskilling and contributing knowledge to our professional community.

    We work with landowners, developers and professional teams to assess the nutrient impact of new development and to design nutrient offsetting and mitigation schemes as well as peatland assessments and water management/optimisation schemes. Our work includes wetland design, nature-based solutions, SuDS & Natural Flood Management as well as water management and land reversion projects.

    About the Role

    In this role you will be involved in all aspects of project work from proposal to final invoicing.

    You will manage multiple projects at any one time, ensuring that high-quality deliverables are produced within agreed budgets and timeframes. You will also support the mentoring and development of more junior staff, including reviewing their work and helping them build confidence in technical delivery.

    Your day-to-day work will include technical analysis, practical problem solving, report writing and technical review. You will provide clear advice to clients and liaise directly with regulatory authorities and wider project teams.

    We appreciate that there is no formal training course that prepares someone fully for a role with us, and so specific technical training on nutrient neutrality will be provided. There will be opportunities to develop areas of particular interest, and you will be actively encouraged to stay abreast of the latest industry developments.

    What we are looking for

    Nutrient neutrality is a specialist and evolving area which draws on a range of multidisciplinary skills. We are looking for a Senior Environmental Consultant with experience in one or more of the following disciplines: hydrology, geo-environmental science, geography, engineering, ecology (peatlands), water management or agricultural land management.

    We need a professional, competent individual who can bring technical expertise, project management capability, commercial awareness and strong client relationship and communication skills. The successful candidate will be confident working independently with minimal supervision and also collaboratively within our small, supportive consultancy team.

    Role competencies and experience

    * MSc and/or significant industry experience in a relevant field.

    * A minimum of 3 years’ consultancy experience in the UK.

    * Experience managing projects and delivering work within agreed budgets and timescales.

    * Experience managing, mentoring or training early-career staff would be beneficial.

    * Good commercial awareness and client relationship management skills.

    * Proactive and confident communicator with a friendly, collaborative and innovative approach.

    * Good IT literacy, including Microsoft Office. Experience with QGIS would be beneficial.

    * Excellent report-writing, technical review and proofing skills.

    * Chartered status, or a desire to work towards chartership with a relevant institution.

    * Membership of a relevant professional institution, for example CIWEM or CIEEM, would be beneficial.

    * Attention to detail and a genuine desire to deliver work to the highest standard.

    * A passion for improving the environment.

    * A UK driving licence is required.

    What would make you a great fit

    * Enthusiastic, self-driven and keen to get stuck in.

    * Friendly, collaborative and practical in your approach.

    * Comfortable working in a small consultancy environment where flexibility and initiative are valued.

    * Able to build strong relationships with clients, regulators and colleagues.

    * Confident balancing technical delivery with project management responsibilities.

    * Interested in contributing to a growing and developing area of environmental consultancy.

    With a commitment to delivering work of the highest standard, an ambitious candidate will excel in our growing, dynamic consultancy environment.

    Job Benefits

    * Permanent full-time role, with flexibility considered.

    * Competitive and flexible remuneration package commensurate with the position.

    * Company profit share.

    * Commitment to facilitating a Personal Development Plan.

    * Payment of key professional membership subscription fees.

    * Flexible and hybrid working.

    * Contributory pension.

    * 25 days’ annual leave per year plus Bank Holidays.

    * Support to work towards chartered status with a relevant institution.

    * Supportive, friendly office environment that values good staff.
