How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.

    Job description

    Smile Education are currently recruiting a Behaviour and Attendance Mentor to work within a secondary school in North East Manchester.
    This is a pastoral-focused role supporting pupils with behaviour, attendance, SEMH needs and wider barriers to learning. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils, families, pastoral teams, safeguarding staff and external agencies to improve attendance, promote positive behaviour and help students remain engaged in education.
    The role is suitable for candidates with strong pastoral experience within a secondary school. Applicants must have experience supporting young people with behaviour, attendance, wellbeing or safeguarding concerns in an education setting.
     
    Role Overview
    As a Behaviour and Attendance Mentor, you will support pupils who require additional pastoral intervention around attendance, punctuality, behaviour, engagement and emotional wellbeing.
    You will identify pupils at risk of poor attendance, persistent absence or disengagement and help implement early intervention strategies. This may include meeting with pupils, contacting parents and carers, creating action plans, recording interventions and working with school staff to remove barriers to learning.
    A key part of the role will involve supporting pupils who present with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs or difficulty regulating within school. You will help promote restorative approaches, support reflection and reset processes, and work with staff to encourage positive routines, boundaries and expectations.
     
    Key Responsibilities

    Monitor pupil attendance, punctuality, behaviour and engagement.
    Identify pupils at risk of poor attendance, persistent absence or disengagement.
    Support attendance reviews, action planning and intervention meetings.
    Work with pupils and families to remove barriers to regular attendance.
    Provide pastoral support to pupils with SEMH, behavioural or wellbeing needs.
    Support pupils who present with challenging, disruptive or concerning behaviour.
    Use positive, trauma-informed and restorative approaches where appropriate.
    Contribute to behaviour support plans and targeted intervention strategies.
    Support pupils in reflection, reset or intervention spaces where required.
    Work closely with pastoral staff, safeguarding leads, tutors and curriculum teams.
    Liaise with parents, carers and external agencies where needed.
    Maintain accurate records of attendance concerns, behaviour incidents and interventions.
    Use school systems to monitor attendance, behaviour and pupil progress.
    Support vulnerable and at-risk pupils to remain engaged in education.
    Promote high expectations, positive conduct and respectful relationships across the school.
    Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately. 
    Requirements

    The successful candidate will have pastoral experience within a secondary school or similar education setting.
    Experience supporting pupils with attendance, behaviour, SEMH or wellbeing needs is essential.
    Candidates must be confident working with pupils who may display challenging behaviour.
    A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures is required.
    Experience working with parents, carers and external agencies is desirable.
    Candidates should be able to build positive, professional relationships with pupils and families.
    Strong communication, organisation and record-keeping skills are essential.
    Experience using school MIS, attendance or behaviour monitoring systems is desirable.
    A Level 3 qualification in Education, Youth Work, Social Work, Behaviour Support or a related area would be advantageous.
    GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or equivalent is desirable.
    Candidates must be patient, resilient, professional and able to work under pressure.
    Applicants must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
    Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.

    £95–£130 per day, dependent on experience and placement responsibilities.
