How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Role Overview

Vision for Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND SEMH Specialist to join a specialist school in Colchester. The successful candidate will support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

This role is ideal for a passionate and resilient individual who understands the needs of children and young people with complex learning, behavioural, and emotional needs and is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

    Key Responsibilities

Provide tailored support to pupils with SEND and SEMH needs within the classroom and wider school environment.
Work closely with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to deliver effective interventions and personalised support plans.
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional wellbeing, confidence, and engagement in learning.
Use a range of strategies to support pupils with challenging behaviour, anxiety, communication difficulties, and emotional regulation.
Assist with implementing individual education plans (IEPs), behaviour support plans, and safeguarding procedures.
Promote positive behaviour and encourage pupils to develop independence, resilience, and life skills.
Support pupils in accessing learning activities and achieving their educational goals.
Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and carers where appropriate.

    Requirements

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, SEMH needs, or challenging behaviour.
A patient, empathetic, and consistent approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
    Strong communication and teamwork skills.
The ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

    Desirable Experience

Experience working in a specialist SEND school or alternative provision setting.
Knowledge of autism, ADHD, trauma-informed practice, and emotional regulation strategies.
Relevant qualifications such as Team Teach, Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent experience.

    NTAP and Training Support

Vision for Education offers access to professional development opportunities, including the National Teaching Assistant Programme (NTAP), supporting staff to develop their skills, confidence, and career progression within education.
