How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Biomedical Scientist – Microbiology (Band 6)

    Location: London, UK
    Salary: Band 6 (in line with current NHS Agenda for Change pay scales)

    Full 247 rota

    We are currently recruiting for an experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist – Microbiology to join a busy NHS laboratory in London. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a high-performing microbiology department processing a large volume of routine diagnostic samples.

    Essential Requirements

    * HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist (or eligible for registration prior to commencement).

    * BSc (Hons) Degree in Biomedical Science or an equivalent recognised qualification.

    * A minimum of 4 years' post-registration/postgraduate experience working exclusively within a routine Microbiology laboratory.

    * Previous experience in a high-volume hospital laboratory, such as an NHS, government, university teaching, or tertiary referral hospital or large Private laboratories based in the UK

    * Confident working independently across all areas of routine microbiology.

    Experience Required

    Successful applicants will have practical experience in:

    * Processing high volumes of routine microbiology specimens.

    * Culture, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

    * Reading and interpreting routine culture plates.

    * Routine bacteriology and associated microbiological investigations.

    * Working within ISO 15189/UKAS (or equivalent) accredited laboratory standards.

    * Maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and turnaround times in a busy diagnostic laboratory.
