How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Civil Engineer
Birmingham City Centre with Hybrid Working

An award-winning, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Civil Engineer to join its established Infrastructure team based in the heart of Birmingham, just a short walk from the city's main train stations.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a close-knit and supportive team where collaboration genuinely extends beyond the working day. You'll be joining a group of people who enjoy working together, socialise outside of the office and have created a friendly, welcoming culture where everyone is encouraged to contribute and develop.

Working across a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use developments, you'll play an important role in delivering highways, drainage and development infrastructure projects from initial feasibility through to construction. The team continues to secure exciting new work across the Midlands, offering excellent project variety and long-term career stability.

Your responsibilities will include the design of highways, drainage strategies, SuDS, levels, earthworks and external works, alongside the production of technical drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. You'll also undertake drainage modelling using MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage, liaise with clients and approval bodies, and support projects through planning, detailed design and delivery.

As your experience grows, you'll also have the opportunity to mentor and support Graduate and Assistant Engineers, helping to develop the next generation of engineers whilst gradually taking on greater responsibility for project delivery and client relationships. Whether you've already started mentoring others or are looking to develop those leadership skills, you'll be given the support and autonomy to do so.

The successful candidate will have previous experience working within a UK engineering consultancy, designing development infrastructure projects covering highways and drainage. You'll have a good understanding of Section Agreements including S38, S278, S104 and S106, together with experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Knowledge of MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage would be highly beneficial.

In return, you'll join a consultancy that places genuine emphasis on developing its people. Alongside a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, you'll benefit from flexible hybrid working, structured training, chartership support, funded professional memberships and a clear pathway for progression. With an experienced leadership team that actively invests in its staff and a positive office culture where people genuinely enjoy coming to work, this is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious Civil Engineer looking to take the next step in their career.
