How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Are you passionate about delivering outstanding customer service?
We're looking for a calm, organised and compassionate individual to join the Bereavement Services team at Buckinghamshire Council. In this varied role, you'll coordinate chapel services, welcome and support visitors, manage service technology, and help ensure every funeral service is delivered with dignity, professionalism and care.

If you've worked in customer service, hospitality, events, healthcare or a public-facing role, we'd love to hear from you. Full training will be provided.

    About the role
As a Chapel Attendant, you'll play a key role in ensuring cremation services run smoothly at the Chilterns crematorium. Working as part of a supportive team, you'll prepare the chapel for services, welcome funeral directors and mourners, operate chapel media systems and provide discreet assistance throughout each service.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing the chapel before each service, ensuring it is clean, welcoming and ready for families.
Operating the chapel media system, including music, visual tributes and webcasts.
Greeting funeral directors, celebrants and mourners with empathy, professionalism and respect.
Checking documentation and the identity of the deceased before services.
Remaining in attendance during services to provide support and maintain a safe environment.
Preparing the chapel between services and maintaining floral tribute areas.
Assisting with the scattering of ashes in the Garden of Remembrance, sometimes in the presence of families.
Supporting remembrance events, open days and other activities.
Carrying out routine checks and helping maintain high standards across both crematorium sites.

    About you
We're looking for someone who is compassionate, dependable and able to work calmly in an emotionally sensitive environment.

    You'll ideally have:

Excellent customer service skills and experience dealing with members of the public.
The ability to communicate sensitively with people who may be grieving.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Confidence using computers or the willingness to learn new systems.
The ability to work independently, use your initiative and remain organised under pressure.
    Good literacy and numeracy skills.
GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths, or relevant experience.

Experience working in a customer-facing role is essential, particularly where you've handled sensitive conversations or supported people during difficult situations.

Why work with us and Buckinghamshire Council?
