How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Apprentice Mechanical Technician

    The Role:
    The Apprentice Mechanical Technician will undertake a structured programme of training and development, combining practical workshop experience with formal academic study, to develop the knowledge, competence, and behaviours required to perform as a skilled Mechanical Technician.
    The apprenticeship is competence-based and will typically be completed over a four-year period, subject to successful achievement of both company and training provider requirements. The role is designed to support the progression from trainee to fully competent technician within a controlled and supported environment.
    Progression is measured through defined competence milestones and formal assessment with exposure to a wide range of mechanical systems, offshore equipment, and workshop practices.
    This is a development role requiring a high level of commitment, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

    Whilst the role is based in Oldmeldrum, the location of study with our training partner is Altens, Aberdeen.

    Key Duties and responsibilities:
    Undertake a structured programme of practical and theoretical training aligned to Apprenticeship curriculum
    Carry out tasks and activities appropriate to current competence level, under supervision where required
    Attend college or training provider sessions and complete all associated coursework to a high standard and within agreed timescales
    Accurately complete all job-related documentation, including service records, inspection reports, and training evidence
    Comply fully with all company policies, procedures, and Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements
    Carry out all work in a safe, controlled, and diligent manner, maintaining a strong focus on personal and team safety
    Actively participate in regular training reviews and performance assessments with line management, mentors, HR, and training providers
    Support workshop and operational activities, gaining exposure to equipment preparation, maintenance, and mobilisation processes
    Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning, seeking feedback and applying continuous improvement
    Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment at all times
    Ensure appropriate use and care of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
    Support the wider workshop and operational teams as required to meet business needs
    Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by line management, appropriate to level of training and developmentWhat we’re looking for:

    Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety requirements
    Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
    Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
    Positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic
    Strong organisational skills to maintain the organisation and cleanliness of the workshop.
    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    Demonstrable interest in mechanical engineering, technical disciplines, or hands-on work
    Strong willingness to learn and develop both practical and theoretical skills
    Basic understanding of mechanical principles (advantageous but not essential)Key skills, knowledge and experience: 
    Educated to secondary school level (or equivalent)
    Maths NAT 5
