How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Are you passionate about engineering? As a member of our Firing Units and Power Electronics team, this is a fantastic opportunity to play an integral role in delivering our products.

    Salary: Up to £57,000 depending on experience

    Location: Stevenage (We may be able to offer a relocation package for this role)

    Dynamic (hybrid) working: Typically, 3 days per week on site. Where possible, we will seek to accommodate a blended approach to on-site and remote working.

    Security Clearance: British Citizen

    Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

    - Being a first point of contact for advice and support on technical and process related queries, and providing more formal support options.

    - Work on process improvement, where opportunities are identified, and promote awareness of relevant company process across the team.

    - Actively track the project activities of each Tech Lead, through regular catch ups and/or reviewing the reporting materials that they generate to their project design authority.

    - Periodically review each Tech Lead's L4 project plans.

    - With knowledge of each Tech Lead's project activities and plans, provide pro-active guidance and course correction, where potential issues are identified, rather than waiting to be approached when issues arise.

    - Support project gate reviews by advising on review pack contents and potentially holding pre-review before the actual gate review takes place.

    - To be an escalation route to support realistic cost affective technical delivery solutions (Stakeholders being Head of Actuators (Joe); Equipment EDA (multiple), Head of Equipment Delivery (Ashvin))

    - Tailor the level of support and involvement as appropriate, based on the needs of each individual team Tech lead.

    - Investigate all potential opportunities of offloading are met for each project

    - Provide technical input to Bids in support of Actuator CofEx new business

    What we're looking for from you:
    Strong power electronics background, ideally with previous design experience of PMSM control systems (could be from Automotive Traction or Defence)

    Experience with mixed analogue & digital control electronics design, some specifics include:

    Power Inverters (discrete gate drives & 3 phase bridge power stage) / DC-DC converters / Digital Position Encoders / Analogue Position Sensors / Current Sensors & Signal Conditioning / Discrete Control Logic

    Experience in the full product development life cycle experience

    Experience with Design for Test & Design for Manufacture

    Experience with designing for EMC & ENV compliance

    Experience of design for high safety integrity (Design Assurance Level / Safety Integrity Level)

    At least an appreciation for Systems Engineering, System Architecture Design, Thermal Management techniques, Reliability.
