How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Overview:
First Military are currently seeking a Head Coach on behalf of one of our clients.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a former British Army Physical Training Instructor (PTI) looking to transition into a leadership role within a high-performing fitness organisation.

Our client has specifically asked us to identify Ex-Army PTIs who can bring the leadership, discipline, instructional ability, and professional standards developed during military service into a civilian environment. This role is far more than coaching sessions..it's about leading a team, driving performance, maintaining exceptionally high standards, and creating a culture that people want to be part of.

You'll be joining a close-knit, ambitious team where energy, professionalism, and accountability are at the heart of everything they do. They're looking for someone who naturally leads from the front, isn't afraid to challenge others to improve, and takes genuine pride in developing both people and performance.

Former British Army PTIs, ideally from the rank of Corporal to Sergeant, are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants from other military backgrounds with relevant instructional and leadership experience will also be given due consideration.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead and deliver exceptional group training sessions, setting the benchmark for coaching standards.
Inspire, motivate, and develop members to achieve outstanding results.
Lead, mentor, and manage the coaching team, ensuring consistently high standards are maintained.
Conduct one-to-one performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and development for staff.
Foster a disciplined, positive, and high-performing team culture.
Manage coach rotas, staffing levels, and holiday planning.
Oversee the day-to-day operation and performance of the gym.
Monitor attendance, member retention, and overall customer satisfaction.
Work closely with the sales team to support membership growth.
Ensure the facility remains clean, safe, and maintained to the highest standards.
Carry out equipment inspections and coordinate maintenance where required.
Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
    Skills and Qualifications:

Level 3 Personal Training qualification (minimum essential).
Former British Army Physical Training Instructor (PTI) experience is highly desirable and actively sought by our client.
Ideally served as a Corporal or Sergeant, with proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing personnel.
Passion for functional fitness, strength and conditioning, and helping others succeed.
Previous experience delivering both individual and group coaching sessions.
Strong leadership skills with the confidence to motivate teams and hold people accountable.
    Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
High personal standards with a professional, disciplined approach.
Ability to lead by example and build a positive team culture.
Willingness to learn, develop, and continuously improve.
    Benefits:

Competitive salary of £33,(Apply online only) - £42,(Apply online only).
    Company pension scheme.
Generous annual leave entitlement and company sick pay.
    Optional private healthcare.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and ongoing training.
The opportunity to lead your own site and shape its culture.
A supportive, ambitious, and close-knit team environment.
Autonomy to make a real impact within a growing business.

    Why Apply?
If you're a former British Army PTI looking for your next challenge, this is an opportunity to take everything you've learnt in service and apply it within a growing organisation that genuinely values leadership, professionalism, and high standards.

Your ability to motivate others, build strong teams, maintain discipline, and lead from the front is exactly what our client is looking for. This isn't just another coaching role, it's an opportunity to spearhead a passionate team, shape the culture of an ambitious business, and make a lasting impact on both your colleagues and members.

If you're ready to continue leading, developing people, and inspiring others outside of the military, we'd love to hear from you
