How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Traffic Engineer (Design & Engineering)

    📍 London Borough of Hackney
    💷 £42.00 per hour PAYE / £56.60 per hour Umbrella

    About the Role

    Hackney Council is looking for an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to support the design and delivery of highways, active travel, road safety and public realm improvement projects. You'll take schemes from concept through to implementation, working closely with the Principal Engineer and key stakeholders.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design and deliver highways, traffic management, road safety, cycling, bus priority and public realm schemes.
    Manage engineering projects, enquiries and technical matters.
    Lead stakeholder engagement, public consultations and report writing.
    Provide technical advice and represent the Council on highways issues.
    Support service improvement and deputise for the Principal Engineer when required.
    Supervise and mentor staff where necessary.

    Technical Requirements

    For the first 3-5 months, the focus will be on road safety, collision reduction and cycling schemes.

    Candidates must have:

    Strong AutoCAD experience and the ability to produce, review and critique engineering drawings.
    Experience undertaking site surveys and developing highway designs.
    Knowledge of LCDS, LTN 1/20, DMRB, TSRGD, Traffic Management Act and relevant highway legislation.
    Ability to prepare technical notes and provide design recommendations.

    Project Delivery & Construction

    Lead consultations with residents, councillors and stakeholders.
    Prepare consultation materials, reports and contractor information packs.
    Produce bills of quantities and monitor works on site.
    Manage risks and ensure safe, compliant project delivery.

    Essential Experience & Qualifications

    Degree (or equivalent) in Civil, Highway, Traffic Engineering or related discipline.
    Significant experience delivering highways and active travel schemes.
    Strong project management, report-writing and stakeholder management skills.
    Membership of, or eligibility for, a relevant professional institution.
    Knowledge of statutory processes, including TMOs, Section 14 Orders, Section 90 Notices and Section 23 Crossing Notices.This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-profile transport and public realm improvements across Hackney.
