How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Health & Safety Compliance Manager

    Salary: £60,000-£65,000PA
    Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
    Job Type: Full-time - Permanent

    Barker Ross are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Health & Safety Compliance Manager to oversee health, safety and environmental compliance across two metal recycling sites.

    This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll be responsible for maintaining compliance, supporting operational teams and driving continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental standards across the business.

    Key Responsibilities

    Manage and continually improve the company's Health & Safety Management Systems, policies and procedures across both sites.
    Carry out regular site inspections and detailed internal audits covering site operations, offices and transport.
    Produce, review and update risk assessments, safe systems of work and RAMS, including documentation for external demolition projects.
    Deliver health and safety inductions for new starters, toolbox talks and ongoing training to promote a positive safety culture.
    Maintain the employee training matrix, ensuring all mandatory training, machinery competencies and Driver CPC requirements remain up to date.
    Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identify root causes and ensure corrective actions are implemented. Complete RIDDOR reporting where required.
    Keep up to date with changes in Health & Safety and Environmental legislation, ensuring company compliance at all times.
    Prepare and submit quarterly and annual waste returns.
    Manage contractor compliance, including approvals, site inductions and monitoring safe working practices.
    Coordinate health surveillance programmes and ensure recommendations are actioned where necessary.
    Provide support with transport compliance activities.
    Supervise and support the Health & Safety Apprentice/Administrator.
    Analyse Health & Safety performance, identify trends and carry out gap analysis to support continuous improvement.Key Skills

    Previous experience working across multiple sites.
    Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage employees and management at all levels.
    Able to build positive working relationships and promote a strong health and safety culture.
    Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and report Health & Safety data.
    Well organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and work on your own initiative.
    Confident using IT systems and producing compliance documentation and reports.
    A proactive approach to identifying risks and driving improvements in Health, Safety and Environmental performance.Essential Requirements

    NEBOSH General Certificate.
    Full UK driving licence.
    Minimum of two years' experience in a Health & Safety management role.Desirable

    NEBOSH Diploma.
    WAMITAB qualification.
    Previous experience within the waste, recycling or construction sectors.
    Knowledge of environmental permitting and environmental compliance
