This is not your typical “keep the lights on” FM role. The business operates from one premises, but do not let that fool you, this is a small site with plenty of moving parts, including CL2 lab space, specialist equipment, critical plant, compliance, contractors, audits, workplace operations and Health & Safety.
It is a brilliant opportunity for a proactive Facilities Manager who enjoys variety, ownership and being close to the action.
The role
You will take ownership of facilities operations across a busy office and laboratory environment, with the role sitting around 60% Health & Safety and 40% Facilities Management.
You will be responsible for keeping the workplace safe, compliant, well-run and ready for whatever the business throws at it next.
What you will be doing
* Managing day-to-day facilities across office and lab space.
* Leading site Health & Safety, including audits, risk assessments, records and compliance activity.
* Coordinating planned and reactive maintenance, especially around critical lab-related equipment.
* Managing contractors, suppliers and outsourced maintenance providers.
* Working closely with People, Lab Support, IT, Finance and senior leadership.
* Supporting workplace improvements, internal events, business continuity and operational projects.
* Keeping documentation, licences and compliance records audit-ready.
What we are looking for
You do not need to be an engineer or scientist, but you do need to be comfortable working in a technical environment and knowing when to bring in specialist support.
The ideal person will bring (not all essential):
* Facilities Management experience within biotech, pharma, diagnostics, R&D, labs or another technical environment is preffered.
* Strong Health & Safety knowledge, ideally with a NEBOSH Certificate.
* Experience managing contractors, suppliers, PPM, reactive works and compliance records.
* Confidence advising senior stakeholders on FM and H&S matters.
* A calm, proactive and adaptable approach when priorities change quickly.
* The ability to manage multiple moving parts without losing sight of the detail.
The package
* Salary: Circa £55,000 - £60,000, depending on experience
* Location: Central Oxford
* Working pattern: Typically four days on site and one from home, with flexibility required
* Out-of-hours work: Occasional planned supplier or maintenance activity, with time off in lieu
If you like Facilities with a bit of chemistry, this could be the one.
