How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Intermediate Mechanical Engineer
    Design-Led Building Services Consultancy
    Farringdon, London (Hybrid Working)
    £40,000 - £48,000 + Bonus + Private Healthcare + Chartership Support

Join a Consultancy Where You'll Be Trusted to Contribute from Day One

An ambitious, design-led building services consultancy is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join its growing London team.

Despite its relatively small size, the business has built an impressive portfolio of projects across commercial, healthcare, education, hospitality and workplace sectors, delivering engineering, design management and technical advisory services for a range of prestigious clients and developments.

This is an opportunity to join a consultancy where talented engineers are given genuine responsibility, direct access to experienced Chartered Engineers and exposure to complex, high-profile projects from the outset.

The practice is built around a simple philosophy: delivering intelligent engineering solutions through collaboration, technical rigour and straightforward communication. Rather than creating unnecessary complexity, the team focuses on understanding clients' challenges and developing practical, well-considered solutions that perform throughout a building's lifecycle.

For engineers who want the project exposure and technical standards of a larger consultancy, but with significantly greater visibility, mentorship and responsibility, this opportunity offers the best of both worlds.

For an engineer looking to accelerate their development, gain exposure to landmark projects and learn directly from industry-leading professionals, this represents an exceptional opportunity.

    Why This Opportunity Is Different

    Work Directly with the Founders

Unlike many consultancies where directors become increasingly removed from day-to-day project delivery, the founding directors remain actively engaged in every project.

As part of a relatively small but highly capable engineering team, you'll work directly alongside experienced Chartered Engineers with backgrounds spanning consultancy, contracting and client-side organisations. Their mentoring and technical guidance are available daily, creating an environment where learning happens naturally through real project involvement.

This is not a business where junior and intermediate engineers sit several layers away from decision-makers. Your work will be visible, valued and supported by people genuinely invested in your long-term success.

Genuine Responsibility Early in Your Career

The business believes great engineers develop through contribution rather than observation.

You'll be encouraged to take ownership of smaller work packages, attend project meetings, contribute ideas and engage directly with clients and design teams from an early stage, all while receiving support from experienced senior engineers.

Engineers within the team describe the culture as one where people are trusted to make meaningful contributions, regardless of level. Ideas are welcomed, constructive challenge is encouraged and learning is viewed as a shared responsibility. The result is an environment where engineers develop quickly, gain confidence and have real influence on project outcomes from the outset.

Exposure to Landmark and Diverse Projects

Despite its size, the consultancy delivers projects that many larger firms would be proud to have in their portfolio.

    Recent work has included:

Building services design management within one of London's most recognisable commercial towers

High-specification workplace environments for leading technology and cyber security organisations

Innovative healthcare facilities supporting advanced diagnostic services

Design-led modular accommodation focused on sustainability and building performance

Major office redevelopments and infrastructure upgrade projects

Education and nursery developments supporting national expansion programmes
Working across design, technical due diligence, construction monitoring and advisory services, you'll gain experience that extends far beyond traditional mechanical design.

    A Clear Route to Chartership

Whether you're pursuing CIBSE or IMechE chartership, you'll receive structured support from experienced Chartered Engineers who understand the process and remain actively involved in your development.

You'll gain the breadth of experience, technical exposure and professional mentoring needed to continue progressing towards professional accreditation and senior-level responsibilities.

    The Culture

This consultancy prides itself on being collaborative, curious and straightforward.

The team values technical excellence but equally recognises the importance of communication, practicality and commercial awareness. Engineers are encouraged to ask questions, challenge assumptions and contribute new ideas.

The business takes a solutions-focused approach to engineering. Rather than dwelling on problems, the team works collaboratively to find practical answers that deliver value for clients while maintaining technical integrity.

There is little interest in hierarchy for hierarchy's sake. What matters is the quality of thinking, the willingness to learn and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

The result is an environment where talented engineers can develop quickly while maintaining a healthy balance of autonomy, support and professional growth.

    The Role

As an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute to projects from concept design through to construction and handover.

    Key responsibilities include:

Producing mechanical building services designs across a variety of sectors

Designing HVAC, heating, cooling and ventilation systems

Assisting with public health and associated building services infrastructure

Undertaking engineering calculations and technical analysis

Preparing reports, specifications and technical documentation

Coordinating with architects, contractors and wider design teams

Supporting project delivery through all RIBA stages

Participating in design reviews and technical workshops

Attending site visits and contributing to construction phase activities

Supporting quality assurance and technical compliance processes

Taking ownership of smaller project packages under the guidance of senior engineers
    About You

    You are likely to have:

A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline

Approximately two to five years' experience within a building services consultancy

Experience designing mechanical building services systems

Strong understanding of HVAC and building services principles

Familiarity with software such as Hevacomp, IES VE or similar

    Exposure to Revit and AutoCAD

Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Ambition to achieve Chartered status through CIBSE or IMechE

A practical, solutions-focused approach to engineering

A genuine enthusiasm for learning and professional development
    What's on Offer

Salary of £40,000 - £48,000 depending on experience

    Discretionary annual bonus

    Private healthcare

    Pension scheme

25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

    Hybrid working arrangement

Modern Central London office near Farringdon

    Chartership support and mentoring

Direct access to experienced Chartered Engineers

Diverse project exposure across multiple sectors

Clear progression opportunities as the business continues to grow
    The Opportunity

This role would suit an engineer who enjoys being part of a close-knit, high-performing team and wants exposure to the types of responsibilities often reserved for more senior staff elsewhere.

You'll join a consultancy where technical excellence, professional development and collaborative working genuinely sit at the centre of the business. With hands-on director involvement, a diverse project portfolio and a culture that actively encourages growth, it offers an outstanding platform for the next stage of your engineering career.

If you're looking for a role where you'll be recognised, supported and challenged in equal measure, while working on some of the most interesting projects in the built environment, we'd be keen to hear from you.
