How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Underwriting Team Leader

    📍 Chelmsford / Hybrid Working
    💰 £50,000 - £55,000 per annum

    Nolan Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a well-established insurance organisation for an experienced Underwriting Team Leader.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded underwriting professional with leadership experience to oversee a team of underwriters, drive operational performance, maintain underwriting standards, and support business growth within a fast-paced environment.

    The Role

    As Underwriting Team Leader, you will manage the day-to-day performance of the underwriting function, ensuring service levels, compliance standards and business objectives are consistently achieved.

    You will lead, coach and develop a team of underwriters, manage workloads and resources, oversee underwriting activities including new business and renewals and ensure all work is completed in line with governance and regulatory requirements. You'll also play a key role in quality assurance, staff development, recruitment, operational improvement and achieving commercial targets.

    The ideal Candidate will have:

    * Proven underwriting experience within the London Market and/or Lloyd's environment.

    * Experience handling multiple classes of insurance business.

    * Previous leadership, supervisory, coaching or mentoring experience.

    * Strong technical underwriting knowledge and attention to detail.

    * Excellent organisational and stakeholder management skills.

    * The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

    * A positive, collaborative and people-focused leadership style.
