How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Role Overview

    We are seeking an experienced Freelance Health & Safety Advisor to support a main contractor delivering two new-build retail projects in London. The successful candidate will work closely with the project teams to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance are maintained throughout the construction phase.

    This is a part-time freelance position requiring approximately 2-3 days per week, with travel between both project locations as required.

    Key Responsibilities

    -Provide competent health and safety advice and support to site management teams.

    -Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.

    -Monitor compliance with UK health and safety legislation, company procedures, and client requirements.

    -Review and provide guidance on Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).

    -Assist in developing and implementing Construction Phase Plans and site-specific health and safety procedures.

    -Deliver site inductions and toolbox talks where required.

    -Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.

    -Monitor subcontractor health and safety performance and challenge unsafe behaviours where necessary.

    -Maintain accurate health and safety records, inspections, and reports.

    -Support site management in promoting a positive safety culture across both projects.

    -Liaise with clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies as required.

    Essential Requirements

    -Minimum 2 years' UK experience working as a Health & Safety Advisor within the construction industry.

    -Previous experience working for a main contractor.

    -Experience on new-build construction projects (commercial, industrial, logistics, education, healthcare, or supermarket developments).

    -Good knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).

    -NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).

    -Valid CSCS Card.

    -Excellent communication and organisational skills.

    -Ability to work independently across multiple project locations.

    -Full right to work in the UK.

    Desirable

    -NEBOSH Construction Certificate.

    -IOSH Membership (TechIOSH, GradIOSH or above).

    -First Aid at Work qualification.

    -Experience working on supermarket or large-scale commercial new-build projects.
