How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Maintenance Engineer

    Location: Whitstable, Kent

    The Role

    We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join a busy maintenance team, supporting the smooth operation of manufacturing equipment and site facilities. This is a varied hands-on role involving planned preventative maintenance, reactive breakdown repairs, continuous improvement activities and project work.

    You will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime and supporting operational efficiency across the site.

    Key Responsibilities

    Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on machinery, plant and site facilities.
    Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, repairing equipment and replacing components where required.
    Respond promptly to breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
    Use the CMMS system to manage maintenance tasks, prioritise workloads and maintain accurate maintenance records.
    Support condition-based monitoring activities and identify improvement opportunities.
    Install, maintain and test electrical and mechanical equipment, including control panels and fixed installations.
    Work on hydraulic, pneumatic and PLC-controlled equipment.
    Interpret electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and engineering drawings.
    Support ongoing continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment performance and reliability.
    Assist with new equipment installations, site improvement projects and sustainability initiatives.
    Maintain engineering tools and equipment to a high standard.
    Coordinate with contractors where required, including reviewing RAMS and issuing permits to work.
    Assist with sourcing spare parts and processing purchase orders.
    Support facilities maintenance, including buildings, utilities and infrastructure.
    Carry out risk assessments and contribute to the development of safe systems of work.
    Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to ensure maintenance priorities are achieved.
    Provide overtime support when required to meet business needs.What We're Looking For

    Essential

    NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering discipline (or equivalent).
    GCSE Grade 5 (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
    A minimum of 5 years' experience in a maintenance engineering role.
    Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
    Experience working with hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
    Ability to interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
    Good IT skills with experience using maintenance management systems.
    Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
    A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach.Desirable

    Completed an engineering apprenticeship.
    18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
    IOSH Working Safely or similar Health & Safety qualification.
    Experience with CNC machinery, automation, injection moulding or plating equipment.
    Knowledge of PLCs and industrial automation systems.What You'll Need

    You will be a motivated Maintenance Engineer who enjoys solving problems, working as part of a team and taking ownership of maintenance activities. You'll be comfortable balancing planned maintenance with reactive repairs while continually looking for ways to improve equipment performance and site efficiency.
