How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Civil Engineer – Development Infrastructure Focus

    An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join a growing engineering team in Manchester.

    This role is ideal for an engineer working towards or already achieving chartered status, with strong experience in private sector development infrastructure projects. You’ll be involved in delivering a wide range of schemes across residential, commercial and mixed-use developments, with responsibility spanning highways, drainage and flood risk design.

    You’ll take a hands-on role in project delivery while supporting junior engineers and working closely with clients, architects and other design disciplines.

    The Role

    * Lead and support the delivery of civil engineering design for development projects.

    * Design and develop highways schemes including S278 and S38 agreements.

    * Produce detailed drainage designs and flood risk assessments.

    * Work on infrastructure design for residential, commercial and mixed-use developments.

    * Prepare technical drawings and models using industry-standard software.

    * Liaise with clients, local authorities and external stakeholders.

    * Support project management activities including technical delivery, programmes and coordination.

    * Mentor and guide junior engineers within the team.

    About You

    * Civil Engineer with strong consultancy experience.

    * Working towards or recently achieved Chartered Engineer status.

    * Proven background in private sector development infrastructure.

    * Strong experience in highways (S278/S38), drainage and flood risk.

    * Confident working across residential and commercial development projects.

    * Strong technical ability with excellent attention to detail.

    * Good communication skills with a collaborative approach to project delivery.
