How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

I'm currently working with a well-established structural engineering consultancy based in Hemel Hempstead that is looking to appoint a Graduate Structural Engineer to join its growing team.

With a strong reputation across the residential sector, the business delivers a broad range of projects including bespoke residential properties, large-scale housing developments, apartment schemes, and mixed-use developments for a loyal and expanding client base. Continued growth has created an excellent opportunity for an ambitious graduate looking to kick-start their career within a supportive, social and collaborative environment.

    The Role

As a Graduate Structural Engineer, you'll work alongside experienced engineers on projects from concept through to completion, gaining hands-on experience across all stages of the design process. You'll receive structured mentoring and support while developing the technical and practical skills needed to build a successful career in structural engineering.

    Key responsibilities include:

Assisting with the design of structural solutions for residential and mixed-use developments

Producing structural calculations, drawings and technical reports under the guidance of senior engineers

Supporting the delivery of projects from concept through to construction

Attending client and design team meetings

Working closely with architects, contractors and other consultants

Carrying out site visits and inspections to gain practical construction experience

Developing your knowledge of UK design standards, engineering software and industry best practice

Working towards professional accreditation with full Chartership support

    Project Portfolio

You'll gain exposure to a variety of schemes including:

    Residential developments

    Housing and apartment schemes

    High-end private residential projects

    Extensions and refurbishments

    Mixed-use developments

    Occasional commercial and education projects

    Requirements

A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or due to graduate this year)

A genuine interest in building structures and structural design

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    Good communication and organisational skills

A proactive attitude and willingness to learn

Experience with structural design software would be beneficial but is not essential

Ambition to work towards Chartership in the future

    What's on Offer

Competitive graduate salary and benefits package

    Flexible working arrangements

    Annual bonus scheme

    Pension contribution

    Free on-site parking

Structured training and mentoring from experienced engineers

Full Chartership support and ongoing professional development

Friendly, close-knit and collaborative working environment

Regular company socials and team events

Exposure to a wide variety of interesting projects from day one

Clear career progression within a growing consultancy

    Strong work-life balance

    Why Apply

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful consultancy that continues to grow through repeat business and client recommendations. You'll receive first-class training and mentoring while working on a diverse range of projects, giving you the foundations to build a successful career in structural engineering.

If you're looking to join a company where you'll be supported, challenged and given genuine responsibility from the outset, I'd be keen to discuss this opportunity further.
