How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Estimator – Civil Engineering
    Location: Accrington
    Salary: Competitive + Benefits

    We are recruiting on behalf of a growing civil engineering contractor based in Accrington for an experienced Estimator to join their pre-construction team.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator with a strong background in civil engineering and infrastructure projects who is looking to play a key role in securing and delivering a diverse portfolio of works.

    The Role

    Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for a range of civil engineering projects.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Reviewing tender enquiries, drawings, specifications and contract documents.

    * Producing detailed cost estimates and tender submissions.

    * Obtaining and evaluating quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.

    * Identifying risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions.

    * Preparing take-offs and bills of quantities.

    * Liaising with clients, consultants and the wider commercial team.

    * Attending pre-tender and post-tender meetings.

    * Maintaining accurate records of estimates and tender outcomes.

    Requirements

    * Previous experience as an Estimator within the civil engineering sector.

    * Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction methods and costs.

    * Experience pricing projects including highways, infrastructure, drainage, earthworks, utilities, public realm or Section 278 works.

    * Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

    * Excellent commercial awareness and analytical skills.

    * Strong communication and negotiation abilities.

    * Proficiency in Microsoft Office and estimating software.

    Desirable

    * HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.

    * Experience working for a main contractor or specialist civil engineering contractor.

    * Knowledge of NEC forms of contract.
