How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Civil Engineering

    We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our growing civil engineering team based in Somerset. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career while working on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and civil engineering projects across the region. You'll receive ongoing support and mentorship from experienced commercial professionals, with clear opportunities for progression.

    The Role

    As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team in managing project costs, maintaining financial control, and ensuring value for money throughout the project lifecycle. Working alongside Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Engineers, and Clients, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience across a range of civil engineering schemes.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Assist with the preparation and monitoring of project budgets and cost forecasts

    * Support the administration of NEC (JCT beneficial) contracts and subcontractor accounts

    * Assist in preparing valuations, variations, and final accounts

    * Monitor project costs and identify potential commercial risks and opportunities

    * Produce accurate cost reports and financial information

    * Support procurement and tendering activities

    * Ensure compliance with contractual and commercial procedures

    * Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation

    * Liaise with site teams, suppliers, and subcontractors

    Requirements

    * Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor role or a graduate position within civil engineering or construction

    * Experience working on civil engineering projects such as highways, infrastructure, drainage, or utilities is desirable

    * Basic understanding of NEC contracts (JCT knowledge beneficial)

    * Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or working towards)

    * Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills

    * Excellent communication and organisational abilities

    * Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

    * Full UK driving licence
