How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Civil Engineer
    Birmingham - Hybrid Working Available

An established, multi-disciplinary Consultancy with an outstanding reputation across the UK is looking to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer to join its growing Infrastructure team in Central Birmingham.

With a strong pipeline of residential, commercial and mixed-use developments, this is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business delivering complex development infrastructure projects from planning through to construction. The Consultancy has built an enviable reputation for technical excellence, collaboration and innovation, and is committed to investing in the long-term development of its people. You'll be joining a business where your ideas are valued, your career is supported, and you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact on the communities you help shape.

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering a diverse range of development infrastructure projects across the UK. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, you will take ownership of projects from feasibility through to detailed design, construction and final delivery. Your responsibilities will include the design of drainage strategies, SuDS, highways, levels, earthworks and external works across both adoptable and private developments, ensuring schemes are delivered to the highest technical standards.

You will be responsible for producing and reviewing technical designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, carrying out drainage modelling using MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage, and coordinating with clients, local authorities, water companies, LLFAs, statutory undertakers and the Environment Agency throughout the design process. As your experience grows, you'll have the opportunity to lead projects, supervise small teams and develop strong client relationships while contributing to the continued success and growth of the Birmingham office.

The role also offers the chance to mentor Graduate and Junior Engineers, sharing your knowledge and helping to develop the next generation of engineers, while continuing your own professional development towards Principal Engineer level and beyond.

To be considered, you should have experience delivering development infrastructure projects within a UK Consultancy environment and possess a strong technical background in highways, drainage, levels and external works design. Experience preparing drainage strategies, SuDS schemes and Section Agreements including S38, S104, S106 and S278 would be highly advantageous. You should be comfortable managing projects through planning and detailed design stages, liaising with statutory authorities and clients, and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment. Experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage is essential, while candidates working towards or already holding ICE Chartership (IEng or CEng) are encouraged to apply.

In return, you'll join a Consultancy that genuinely values its people and offers an outstanding working environment alongside a clear route for progression. You'll benefit from hybrid working (typically three days in the office), flexible working hours, ongoing chartership support, fully funded training and professional subscriptions, a competitive pension contribution, healthcare cash plan, life assurance, generous annual leave with the option to buy additional holidays, volunteering days and a wide range of employee wellbeing initiatives and social events.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer looking to take the next step in their career, working on a broad range of exciting projects within a highly respected Consultancy that offers genuine career progression, technical variety and a collaborative culture.
