How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Instrumentation Technician

    Location: Basildon
Salary: £25,250 - £28,000 per annum (depending on experience)

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Instrumentation Technician to join a growing environmental monitoring team. The organisation designs, installs and manages continuous monitoring systems across a variety of environmental and construction projects, using specialist instrumentation and data management platforms to provide real-time monitoring solutions.

    The Role

This position is ideal for someone at the beginning of their career, whether you have recently completed school, college or university, or already have some practical technical experience. We are looking for an individual with a genuine interest in electronics, instrumentation and understanding how equipment works. This interest may have been gained through education, previous employment or personal projects such as DIY electronics or Raspberry Pi.

The role is primarily office-based in Basildon, with occasional travel to customer sites to assist with the installation, servicing and maintenance of monitoring equipment. A full UK driving licence is therefore essential.

    Key Responsibilities

Calibrate, maintain and prepare monitoring equipment to ensure systems are fully operational and ready for deployment.

Diagnose faults, carry out repairs where appropriate and escalate more complex technical issues when required.

Assist with the installation, retrieval and servicing of monitoring equipment at customer sites.

Manage monitoring data through online platforms, ensuring information is accurate, up to date and accessible.

Support stock control and equipment tracking, including inventory management and maintenance scheduling.

Maintain calibration records, equipment logs and project documentation.

Assist with equipment configuration, system setup and general technical support.

Help maintain an organised, safe and efficient workshop/laboratory environment.

Travel to customer sites when required to support installations and maintenance activities.

Work in accordance with quality, environmental and health & safety procedures and recognised industry standards.

    Person Specification

Qualification in Engineering, Electronics, Environmental Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

A genuine interest in instrumentation, electronics or technical equipment, demonstrated through work, education or personal projects.

Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.

Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn new software and systems.

A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and take ownership of responsibilities.

Good analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly relating to fault finding.

    Full UK driving licence.

    Desirable Experience

Previous experience in a laboratory, workshop, technical support or field-based environment.

Experience working with monitoring equipment, sensors or data logging systems.

Familiarity with online data management platforms.

Experience calibrating or maintaining technical equipment.

An interest in environmental monitoring, construction or engineering industries.

    What's on Offer

Competitive salary of £25,250 - £28,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

    Supportive and collaborative working environment.

Flexible working arrangements following successful completion of the initial training period, where appropriate.

    Company pension.

    Cycle to Work scheme.

    Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.

    Life insurance.
