How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Mechanical Maintenance Engineer – Central London Portfolio

    Location: Fitzrovia and surrounding Central London locations
    Contract: Permanent, full-time
    Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

    The Opportunity

    A leading facilities management provider has recently secured a prestigious new portfolio of commercial properties across Central London and is recruiting several experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineers.

    Working across high-quality commercial buildings in the Fitzrovia area, you will be responsible for statutory compliance checks, planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs to a wide range of mechanical and building services plant.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified mechanical engineer who is confident fault-finding, completing repairs and working within busy, client-facing commercial environments.

    Typical Daily Duties

    Carrying out planned preventative maintenance to mechanical building services.
    Completing statutory compliance checks and maintaining accurate records.
    Diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out reactive repairs.
    Maintaining AHUs, FCUs, pumps, motors, valves, calorifiers and ventilation systems.
    Carrying out checks and repairs to heating and chilled-water systems.
    Inspecting belts, bearings, filters, actuators, control valves and mechanical components.
    Carrying out basic plumbing repairs to taps, toilets, pipework, valves and drainage systems.
    Completing water temperature checks, flushing and other water hygiene tasks.
    Monitoring mechanical plant and alarms through BMS systems.
    Investigating leaks, pressure issues, temperature problems and plant failures.
    Completing plant-room inspections and reporting defects.
    Responding promptly to breakdowns and emergency maintenance requests.
    Escorting and supervising specialist subcontractors where required.
    Completing electronic job sheets, PPM records and compliance documentation.
    Identifying remedial works and reporting recommendations to the contract management team.
    Ensuring all work is completed in line with health and safety procedures.

    Qualifications Required

    Applicants should hold a recognised mechanical or building services qualification, such as:

    City & Guilds Level 2 or Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering Services.
    City & Guilds Level 2 or Level 3 in Plumbing and Heating.
    NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Plumbing, Heating or Mechanical Building Services.
    BTEC Level 3 in Building Services Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
    A recognised mechanical, plumbing or HVAC apprenticeship.
    The following qualifications would be advantageous:

    Water Hygiene or Legionella Awareness.
    L8 training.
    F-Gas qualification.
    Unvented Hot Water qualification.
    Gas Safe commercial qualifications.
    HVAC, ventilation or air-conditioning training.
    Authorised Person training.

    Experience Required

    Previous experience working as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer within commercial offices, mixed-use buildings or similar environments.
    Strong experience carrying out mechanical PPM and reactive maintenance.
    Good fault-finding knowledge across heating, ventilation and chilled-water systems.
    Experience working with AHUs, FCUs, pumps, motors, valves and associated controls.
    A good understanding of statutory compliance and mechanical plant-room safety.
    Basic plumbing and water hygiene experience.
    The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
    Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    A professional, reliable and client-facing approach.
