How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Head of Finance

    Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire

    Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

    Contract: Full Time, Permanent

    Tradewind Recruitment is proud to be working in partnership with a successful and ambitious school in Wakefield to recruit an experienced and dynamic Head of Finance.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified or experienced finance professional to join a thriving educational setting, leading the school's financial operations and playing a key role in supporting strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure the effective management of the school's finances, compliance, and long-term financial sustainability.

    The Role

    As Head of Finance, you will be responsible for:

    Leading all aspects of the school's financial management, including budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
    Preparing accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports for senior leaders and governors.
    Monitoring income and expenditure, ensuring effective budget control and identifying opportunities for efficiencies.
    Managing the school's annual budget-setting process and supporting long-term financial planning.
    Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, audit requirements and education sector funding guidance.
    Overseeing payroll, procurement, contracts and purchasing processes to ensure value for money.
    Leading and developing the finance team, promoting high standards of service and continuous improvement.
    Supporting the Senior Leadership Team with strategic financial advice to inform key business decisions.
    Managing relationships with external auditors, suppliers and other key stakeholders.About You

    The ideal candidate will have:

    Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role, ideally within the education or public sector.
    A recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent) is desirable, although candidates with substantial relevant experience will also be considered.
    Excellent financial management, budgeting and reporting skills.
    Strong knowledge of financial compliance, governance and internal controls.
    Experience of leading and developing finance teams.
    Outstanding analytical, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders.
