How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    * Support emergency response activity for mechanical system failures, contributing to a safe and resilient campus.

This is a varied and hands‑on engineering role with opportunities to influence both day‑to‑day operations and long‑term system development.

We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineer with strong technical capability and a collaborative approach.

    You will ideally have:

    * A relevant degree or equivalent qualification/experience in mechanical engineering.

    * A recognised professional qualification (e.g. CEng or equivalent) or be progressing toward this.

    * Experience in mechanical engineering within an estates, facilities or building services context.

    * Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire safety systems and other mechanical infrastructure.

    * Experience working with energy‑efficient systems, sustainable technologies and optimised system performance.

    * Competence in system testing, certification and safe‑working procedures.

    * Ability to read and prepare mechanical engineering drawings and use relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD).

    * A commitment to continual professional development and keeping up to date with industry standards.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward‑thinking Estates & Facilities Directorate that is evolving to meet the demands of a dynamic higher education sector. You will contribute directly to the University’s strategic vision by ensuring our facilities are sustainable, fit for purpose and aligned to long‑term organisational priorities. This is an opportunity to shape a significant portfolio, drive meaningful change and make a lasting impact.
