How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the Opportunity

An established UK organisation is seeking a Laboratory Chemist to join its technical team in Birmingham. The company operates within a highly regulated industrial environment and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence.
This opportunity would suit candidates with a scientific qualification or practical experience gained within a laboratory, technical, manufacturing, process, or science-based environment. Applicants with relevant industry experience and a strong willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

The Laboratory Chemist will support laboratory operations through the testing and analysis of samples, maintenance of records and documentation, and adherence to quality, health and safety, and environmental procedures.
Working as part of a wider technical team, the successful candidate will contribute to ensuring samples are processed accurately, laboratory standards are maintained, and operational compliance requirements are met.

    Key Responsibilities

Carry out laboratory analysis on a variety of samples in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
Assess incoming samples against agreed acceptance criteria.
Assist with the maintenance, calibration, and upkeep of laboratory equipment.
Record and maintain accurate laboratory data using computerised systems.
Assist with technical documentation and record management.
Support compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
Promote safe working practices across the site.
Maintain a clean, organised, and professional laboratory environment.
Ensure high standards of housekeeping are maintained at all times.
Support site activities related to regulatory and compliance requirements.
Undertake additional duties as required by the management team, ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently.

    Candidate Requirements

    Experience & Qualifications

    Desirable:

Qualification in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biological Science, or a related discipline.
Previous experience in a laboratory, technical, manufacturing, testing, or science-based environment.
Experience working within a regulated industry.
Familiarity with laboratory equipment and testing methodologies.
    Full UK driving licence.

    Skills & Attributes

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    Good organisational and administrative skills.
Ability to follow procedures and maintain detailed records.
    Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexible and reliable approach to shift working.
Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

    What's on Offer

Opportunity to join a stable and well-established organisation.
Structured training and ongoing professional development.
Hands-on laboratory experience within a regulated operational environment.
    Collaborative and supportive team culture.
Long-term career prospects within a growing technical function.
