How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Graduate / Junior Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services

    Location: Cambridge
    Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Sector: Building Services / MEP Design Consultancy

    About the Company

A forward-thinking and rapidly growing building services consultancy based in Cambridge is looking to appoint a Graduate or Junior Electrical Design Engineer to join its expanding MEP design team.

The business is known for delivering innovative, sustainable and technically robust building services solutions across a range of high-quality projects. Working closely with architects, developers, contractors and end clients, the team is involved from early-stage concept design through to detailed design, coordination and delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the early stage of their electrical building services career who wants to develop quickly within a supportive, technically strong and modern consultancy environment.

    The Role

As a Graduate / Junior Electrical Design Engineer, you will support the design and delivery of electrical building services systems across a variety of projects. You will work closely with senior engineers and directors, gaining hands-on experience across lighting design, small power, LV distribution, containment, fire alarms, emergency lighting, security systems, data/ICT infrastructure, calculations, specifications and technical reports.

You will receive structured support and mentoring, with the opportunity to develop your technical ability, software knowledge, client-facing skills and overall understanding of building services design.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Assist with the design of electrical building services systems, including lighting, small power, LV distribution, containment, fire alarms, security, data and emergency lighting.

    * Support senior engineers with calculations, design reports, specifications, schedules and drawings.

    * Work on projects from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.

    * Liaise with internal MEP teams, architects, contractors and external consultants.

    * Attend design team meetings and site visits where required.

    * Produce and review technical information using relevant design software.

    * Help ensure designs are energy-efficient, sustainable and compliant with current regulations.

    * Develop knowledge of UK building regulations, BS 7671, CIBSE guidance and industry best practice.

    * Contribute to the delivery of high-quality, coordinated and commercially aware design solutions.

    About You

The successful candidate will be motivated, technically curious and keen to build a long-term career in electrical building services design.

You may be a recent graduate, or already have some experience working within a building services consultancy, contractor or engineering environment.

    Requirements

    * Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.

    * Some understanding of electrical building services design.

    * Interest in lighting design, power distribution, low-carbon buildings and sustainable design.

    * Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.

    * Good attention to detail and a proactive approach.

    * Ability to work well as part of a collaborative team.

    * Any experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Dialux, Relux, Amtech, ElectricalOM or similar software would be beneficial.

    * Previous UK building services consultancy experience would be advantageous but is not essential for graduate-level candidates.

    What’s on Offer

    * The chance to join a cutting-edge Cambridge-based consultancy with genuine growth plans.

    * Exposure to technically interesting and sustainable building services projects.

    * Direct mentoring from experienced engineers and senior leadership.

    * Clear progression route from Graduate / Junior Engineer through to Intermediate level and beyond.

    * Support towards professional development and chartership.

    * A collaborative, modern and ambitious working environment.

    * Competitive salary and benefits package.

    * Opportunity to develop both technical and client-facing skills early in your career.

    Why Apply?

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Graduate or Junior Electrical Design Engineer who wants to be more than just a number. You will join a business where you can learn directly from experienced engineers, take on real responsibility and build your career within a progressive consultancy that values innovation, sustainability and technical excellence.

If you are looking to develop your career in electrical building services design and want to be part of a growing Cambridge-based consultancy, this could be an excellent next step
