How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our consultancy client is seeking Senior and Principal Civil Engineers to support on flood risk and water management schemes for their end client based out of Birmingham with hybrid working available.

    Our client has a Head Office in Birmingham but may consider candidates based near Reading, Bristol, London, Leeds and Manchester also.

    They are a specialist consultant delivering holistic water management solutions across a broad range of disciplines, including flood risk, surface water management, foul water management, water quality, water resources (efficiency and neutrality), and hydraulic modelling.

    They strive for excellent design, challenging conventional approaches within the water sector to develop innovative, sustainable, and resilient solutions that respond to the demands of our changing environment and support thriving communities.

    Responsibilities

    As a Senior or Principal Civil Engineer, you will lead the development and delivery of drainage and water management solutions across a variety of projects, from feasibility and planning through to detailed design and implementation.

    You will work closely with colleagues across engineering, transport planning, environment and placemaking disciplines, helping to deliver holistic and innovative design solutions.

    Depending on your experience, you will also support project management, mentor junior engineers and contribute to client relationships and business development activities.

    Preparation of Drainage Strategies and Sustainable Drainage (SuDS) designs.
    Development of concept and detailed drainage solutions for a range of development projects.
    Hydraulic and hydrological assessments supporting planning and design submissions.
    Production of technical reports, calculations and supporting documentation.
    Liaison with statutory consultees and stakeholders, including Lead Local Flood Authorities, Environment Agency, Internal Drainage Boards and Water Companies.
    Review and interpretation of surveys, modelling outputs and site information.
    Identification and promotion of sustainable and nature-based drainage solutions.
    Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
    Support and mentoring of graduate and assistant engineers.
    Contributing to project delivery, programme management and client communications.

    Skills/experience/qualifications

    We are looking for individuals who combine strong technical capability with a passion for sustainable water management and collaborative design.

    Experience in drainage design and water management consultancy.
    Strong understanding of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), blue-green infrastructure and nature-based solutions.
    Experience developing concept and detailed drainage designs for development projects.
    Understanding of hydraulic design principles and hydrological processes.
    Ability to interpret technical information, drawings, surveys and modelling outputs.
    Experience preparing technical reports and communicating effectively with clients and stakeholders.
    Strong organisational and project management skills.
    Understanding of CDM Regulations and design risk management.
    Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
    Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and guidance
    Experience with some or all of the following would be beneficial: Causeway Flow / MicroDrainage, FEH, AutoCAD, GIS software.
    Chartered Engineer (ICE, CIWEM or equivalent) or actively working towards Chartership.
    Demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development.
