How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    United Kingdom: Cambridge, Oxford

    Europe: Paris, Munich, Hamburg, Siegen

    Japan: Tokyo

I'm working with a number of leading quantum technology companies across the globe developing next-generation quantum computing and quantum networking hardware. These organisations are building neutral atom and trapped-ion platforms and are looking for talented experimental AMO physicists to join their growing teams.

Whether your expertise is in neutral atoms, trapped ions, optical tweezers, laser cooling and trapping, quantum optics or experimental quantum hardware, I'd be interested in speaking with you.

Responsibilities vary between organisations but may include:

    • Designing, building and optimising cutting-edge AMO experiments
    • Developing neutral atom or trapped-ion quantum hardware
    • Designing and integrating optical, laser and vacuum systems
    • Manipulating and controlling atomic qubits
    • Characterising, testing and optimising experimental performance
    • Developing experimental control software and automation tools
    • Analysing experimental data to improve system performance
    • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of physicists and engineers to develop next-generation quantum technologies

    What we're looking for

We're keen to speak with candidates who have experience in one or more of the following:

    • Neutral atom or trapped-ion quantum computing
    • Optical tweezers
    • Laser cooling and trapping
    • Atomic, Molecular & Optical (AMO) physics
    • Quantum optics
    • Laser systems and optical instrumentation
    • Ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems
    • Experimental quantum hardware
    • Quantum control and automation
    • Scientific programming (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB or similar)

    Requirements

    • PhD (or equivalent industry experience) in AMO Physics, Quantum Physics or a closely related discipline
    • Hands-on experimental experience in an AMO laboratory
    • Excellent problem-solving and experimental skills
    • Strong communication and collaborative working style

    What's on offer

Opportunities are available across a range of organisations, from rapidly growing startups to established leaders in quantum technology.

Depending on the position, packages may include:

    • Competitive salary
    • Equity or stock options
    • Relocation support
    • Visa sponsorship (where applicable)
    • Access to world-class laboratories and facilities
    • The opportunity to help shape the future of quantum technology

If you're an experimental AMO physicist with experience in neutral atoms or trapped ions and would like to hear about current opportunities, I'd love to have a confidential conversation.
