How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Supervisor to join a leading UK biomedical research organisation at the forefront of preclinical and translational science.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced animal technologist with proven leadership experience to oversee the daily operation of a transgenic breeding team, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, colony management and service delivery to researchers.

    The Role

As Supervisor you will lead a team responsible for the management of transgenic mouse colonies within a modern, state-of-the-art animal facility. You will coordinate workloads, support researchers, supervise staff and ensure breeding programmes are delivered efficiently while maintaining compliance with UK regulations and best practice.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Supervising the day-to-day activities of the transgenic breeding team.
    • Planning and coordinating workloads to meet researcher and operational priorities.
    • Maintaining accurate breeding records and updating colony management systems.
    • Supporting routine husbandry, health monitoring and animal welfare.
    • Ensuring compliance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and Home Office licence requirements.
    • Training, mentoring and supporting members of the team.
    • Driving continuous improvement within the breeding unit.
    • Participating in weekend, bank holiday and occasional out-of-hours rotas.

    About You

We're looking for someone who combines excellent technical knowledge with strong people management skills.

    You'll ideally have:

    • Previous experience supervising or leading staff within an animal research facility.
    • Extensive experience working with transgenic mouse colonies.
    • A current or previous Home Office Personal Licence.
    • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple competing demands.
    • Strong knowledge of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and animal welfare legislation.
    • Experience planning breeding programmes and maintaining accurate colony records.
    • The ability to make sound decisions and work independently within a fast-paced research environment.

    Desirable experience includes:

    • Biological Sciences degree or equivalent.
    • IAT qualification.
    • NACWO training.
    • Experience working within individually ventilated cage (IVC) facilities.
    • Knowledge of cancer biology, genetics and transgenic colony management software.

If you're an experienced animal technologist with supervisory experience and are looking to take the next step in your career, we'd love to hear from you.
