How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Shape the Future of Energy, Water and Infrastructure

    We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Designer to join our growing Engineering Services team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity to work on some of the UK's most complex and exciting projects across the Water, Energy, Green Energy, Nuclear, Transport and Infrastructure sectors.

    As a Senior Electrical Designer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and FEED stages through to detailed design and construction. You'll work alongside multidisciplinary teams within a business that employs over 300 engineers and designers across the UK.

    With a strong pipeline of long-term work in the Water and Nuclear sectors, this role offers genuine career progression, technical challenge and the opportunity to influence major projects that support the UK's future infrastructure.

    The Role

    As a Senior Electrical Designer, you will perform or support a Lead Designer role on one or more projects, ensuring that design deliverables are produced safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    Produce safe, practical and cost-effective electrical designs in accordance with client requirements and company procedures.
    Develop design deliverables including:

    Single line diagrams
    Block cable diagrams
    Cable routing diagrams
    Electrical schematics
    Equipment layouts
    3D models

    Prepare associated project documentation such as:

    Bills of Materials
    Cable schedules
    Design packs
    Material requisitions

    Act as Senior Designer on project proposals and bids.
    Check and review drawings in line with company quality procedures.
    Mentor and support the development of junior designers.
    Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
    Ensure designs are safe, compliant and operable throughout the project lifecycle.
    Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with health, safety and risk management requirements.

    About You

    You are an experienced Electrical Designer with a strong technical background and a passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions. You thrive in a collaborative environment and have the confidence to engage with clients, stakeholders and colleagues at all levels.

    Essential Requirements

    Significant experience as an Electrical Designer within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
    Strong understanding of UK electrical design standards, legislation and industry best practices.
    Proficiency with CAD software.
    Experience of 3D modelling, ideally using AVEVA PDMS / E3D.
    Experience using Relux or similar lighting design software.
    Proven experience delivering projects throughout all stages of the project lifecycle.
    Excellent communication, organisational and time-management skills.
    Ability to work effectively across multiple projects and disciplines.
    Strong commitment to safety and risk management.

    Desirable Experience

    Experience within one or more of the following sectors:

    Water
    Nuclear
    Energy
    Green Energy
    Pipelines
    Rail
    Highways

    Qualifications

    Essential

    City & Guilds qualification, or
    ONC/OND, HNC/HND, or equivalent engineering qualification

    Desirable

    EngTech or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) professional registration
