How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Fawkes & Reece are currently working with a leading Mechanical & Electrical contractor who are seeking an experienced Mechanical Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a major project based in Cardiff.

    This is an excellent opportunity to work with a well-established contractor on a significant project, offering an initial contract of approximately 18 months, with the potential for an extension.

    The Role

    As the Mechanical Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of the mechanical package from project delivery through to final account. You will work closely with the project and commercial teams to ensure costs are effectively managed while maintaining contractual compliance.

    Key Responsibilities

    Managing all commercial aspects of the mechanical package.
    Preparing, reviewing and negotiating subcontractor packages.
    Producing accurate cost reports, forecasts and valuations.
    Managing variations, change control and compensation events.
    Preparing interim applications for payment and agreeing final accounts.
    Monitoring project costs against budgets and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
    Reviewing and administering subcontractor payments.
    Assisting with procurement of mechanical subcontractors and suppliers.
    Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and industry standards.
    Liaising with project managers, engineers, clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.Requirements

    Proven experience as a Mechanical Quantity Surveyor within the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) or Building Services sector.
    Strong knowledge of mechanical services installations and associated costs.
    Experience working on large-scale commercial, healthcare, residential, industrial or data centre projects is advantageous.
    Good understanding of standard forms of contract, including JCT and NEC.
    Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
    Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
    Experience using commercial management software is beneficial.
    Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.Qualifications

    Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Building Services, Construction Management or a related discipline.
    Membership of RICS or CICES is advantageous but not essential.
    CSCS Card (where required).What's on Offer
