How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Tooling Technician to support the setup, preparation, and maintenance of cutting tools used in large-scale CNC milling operations. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient and accurate machining of complex components used across heavy engineering industries.

Working within a central tool store, you will be responsible for tooling management, tool assembly, measurement and presetting, and issuing tools to CNC machine operators.

You should be comfortable working around large machinery and handling heavy tooling. The position involves standing, bending, and lifting items up to 20kg, with exposure to noise, coolant, and metal swarf.

    Key Responsibilities

Assemble, preset, and maintain cutting tools and tool holders for large CNC milling machines
Measure and verify tooling dimensions using tool presetters, micrometres, calipers and other precision measuring equipment
Read and interpret engineering drawings and setup instructions to prepare tooling for precision machining operations
Manage tooling inventory, including stock control, regrinds, repairs, and replacement requirements.
Support CNC machinists by minimising downtime during machine setups and changeovers.
Troubleshoot and resolve tooling-related issues efficiently and effectively
Rebuild and maintain large multi-insert tooling, face mills, boring heads, and specialist tool bodies.
Maintain a safe, organised, and efficient tool room environment
    Skills & Experience

    Essential

Previous experience in a tooling, tool-setting, CNC machining, or heavy engineering environment.
Strong knowledge of machining tooling, including drilling, milling, and boring tools
Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings
Competent in the use of manual and digital precision measuring instruments
Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
    Desirable

Experience in Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Construction, or heavy fabrication industries.
Experience supporting the machining of large, heavy components.
Training or qualifications in CNC machining or mechanical engineering.
Knowledge of heavy-duty CNC machining centres, including horizontal mills, vertical mills, and gantry machines.
Familiarity with tooling systems such as Varilock.
    Personal Attributes

    Detail-oriented and organised.
Reliable and conscientious with a strong sense of responsibility.
Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to work
    Benefits

    Company pension scheme.
33 days annual leave, including statutory holidays.
If you have a strong tooling background and enjoy working in a heavy engineering environment supporting large-scale CNC machining operations, please don't hesitate to submit an application ASAP!
