How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The Republic of the Marshall Islands Investigations department is looking for an experienced Marine Investigator to join our team out of our London office.


    As a Marine Investigator, you have the opportunity to help uncover the causes of marine casualties and drive and influence meaningful safety improvements across the industry. You will work alongside a global team of experts, you will lead complex investigations, uncover root causes, and shape recommendations that protect seafarers, vessels, and the marine environment worldwide.

    You be responsible for…

    • Leading and conducting marine safety investigations involving Marshall Islands-registered vessels, from initial response through to final reporting
    • Deploying on-scene when required, providing leadership, direction, and coordination
    • Interviewing witnesses and key personnel to establish clear, evidence-based findings
    • Analyzing technical, operational, and human factors data in collaboration with subject matter experts
    • Identifying the root cause and developing practical, targeted safety recommendations
    • Producing high-quality investigation reports aligned with international standards and regulatory frameworks
    • Providing guidance and oversight to on-scene investigators and supporting personnel
    • Engaging with stakeholders across the industry, including operators, senior leadership, and regulatory bodies
    • Presenting findings, trends, and lessons learned to diverse audiences with clarity and credibility
    • Monitoring investigation progress to ensure timely and effective completion
    • Staying current with evolving international maritime regulations and best practices
    • Proactively identifying trends and opportunities to improve safety across the industry

    • Experience conducting or supporting marine safety or accident investigations
    • Strong background in marine operations, safety, or the regulatory environment
    • Solid understanding of root cause analysis and human and organizational factors
    • Proven ability to analyze complex information and translate it into clear findings and recommendations
    • Experience producing high-quality technical reports or regulatory documentation
    • Confidence presenting findings to a wide range of stakeholders

    • Favorable consideration given to candidates from an Accident Investigation Body
    • Senior seagoing experience (Master, Chief Engineer) or equivalent operational leadership background

    Demonstratable skills…

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent maritime experience
    • Marine casualty investigator further education preferred
    • Fluent English oral and written communication
    • Maritime inspection, audit, and/or survey experience beneficial but not imperative
    • Extensive knowledge and understanding of international instruments (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, MLC, ISM Code, COLREGS)
