How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Chumley is an early-stage tech startup building software that gives tradespeople the flexibility and tools they need to focus on their work, streamlining workflows and keeping more engineers operating at optimum levels. The team is small, ambitious, and focused on shipping practical, high-impact tools used in the field every day.

Chumley is looking for a UI/UX Design Intern to help shape the experience of products used by real engineers and service professionals. You'll work closely with the founders, product team, and engineers to design intuitive workflows, improve usability, and turn complex operational problems into simple, elegant solutions.

This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience designing products from the ground up in a fast-moving startup environment where your work will directly influence what gets built and used in the field.

    What you'll be doing

    • Assisting in the design of web and mobile experiences across Chumley's product ecosystem.
    • Creating wireframes, user flows, mockups, and interactive prototypes using Figma and other modern design tools.
    • Working with founders and engineers to translate user needs and business requirements into intuitive product experiences.
    • Conducting user research, gathering feedback, and identifying opportunities to improve workflows and usability.
    • Helping build and maintain design systems, component libraries, and consistent UI patterns.
    • Collaborating with developers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and efficiently.
    • Contributing to product discovery sessions, brainstorming ideas, and exploring new design concepts.
    • Using AI-powered tools and modern workflows to accelerate design exploration, prototyping, and iteration.
    • Supporting the continuous improvement of the user experience through testing, feedback, and experimentation.

    What we're looking for

    • A strong interest in UI/UX design, product design, or human-centred design.
    • Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, or similar.
    • Understanding of UX fundamentals including user journeys, information architecture, accessibility, and interaction design.
    • Ability to communicate design decisions clearly and explain the reasoning behind your work.
    • A portfolio showcasing design projects, coursework, personal projects, or freelance work. Real-world experience is a bonus, but not required.
    • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn quickly in a startup environment.
    • Interest in SaaS, AI, productivity software, or the future of work.
    • Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating simple, user-friendly experiences.

    Nice to have

    • Experience designing mobile applications or responsive web products.
    • Familiarity with prototyping, usability testing, or user research methods.
    • Basic understanding of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, or React.
    • Experience working on side projects, hackathons, startups, or student organisations.
    • Knowledge of design systems and component-based design.
    • Experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, Cursor, or other design and productivity tools.

    What you'll get

    • Direct mentorship from founders and experienced product builders.
    • The opportunity to work on products used by real customers and field engineers every day.
    • Ownership over meaningful design projects rather than small, isolated tasks.
    • Exposure to the full product development lifecycle, from research and ideation to launch.
    • Flexible tools, learning resources, and support to help you grow as a designer.
    • A fast-paced startup environment where great ideas can quickly become reality.
    • Fully remote, async-friendly working culture with some overlap with UK hours.
    • Potential pathway to a full-time product design role as the company grows.

If you enjoy solving real-world problems, designing products people genuinely rely on, and want to help shape the future of services through great user experiences, Chumley's UI/UX Design Intern role could be a great fit.
