How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Leeds

No two days in a primary school are the same, but every day offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference. If you're a qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking for flexible work across Leeds, we'd love to hear from you.

Academic Appointments partners with a wide range of welcoming primary schools throughout Leeds and the surrounding areas, offering both day-to-day supply and long-term opportunities to suit your availability and career goals.

As a HLTA, you'll play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning, leading whole-class sessions when required, and helping pupils reach their full potential in a positive and inclusive learning environment.

    The Role

Working closely with teachers and school staff, you will support pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, delivering engaging learning experiences while promoting confidence, independence and achievement.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Deliver planned learning activities and lead whole-class teaching when required.

    * Support pupils' academic, social and emotional development.

    * Build positive and effective relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and carers.

    * Promote high standards of behaviour in line with school policies.

    * Adapt confidently to different classroom environments and school settings.

    * Differentiate learning to meet the needs of individual pupils where appropriate.

    * Encourage pupil engagement and maintain high expectations for learning and behaviour.

    * Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to achieve the best outcomes for children.

    * Bring enthusiasm, flexibility and a positive attitude to every placement.

    About You

We're looking for someone who has:

    * A recognised HLTA qualification (or equivalent qualification suitable for HLTA duties).

    * Recent experience supporting teaching and learning within UK primary schools.

    * Strong classroom management skills and confidence leading learning.

    * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    * A nurturing, child-centred approach with a genuine passion for education.

    * The ability to build positive relationships across the whole school community.

    * A flexible, reliable and proactive approach to work.

    * Two professional references, including your most recent employer.

    * An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

    Why Work with Academic Appointments?

    * Competitive rates of pay based on experience and qualifications.

    * Flexible work to fit around your lifestyle.

    * Access to a variety of primary schools across Leeds and the surrounding areas.

    * Ongoing support from a dedicated Primary Education Consultant.

    * Opportunities for both short-term and long-term placements.

    * Recommend a Friend Scheme and Re-registration Bonus.

    * A trusted education recruitment specialist with over 20 years' experience supporting schools and education professionals across Yorkshire.

If you're ready for your next HLTA opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.
