How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Software Developer

    Location: Sittingbourne, Kent
    Hours: Monday to Thursday: 8.45am to 5pm, Friday: 8.45am to 3.30pm (hybrid)
    Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

    We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business looking to expand its IT team with the appointment of a Software Developer. Reporting to an experienced Senior Software Engineer, you'll play an active role in the design, development and ongoing improvement of internal web applications that support the business.
    This is an excellent opportunity for either a recent Computer Science graduate or a developer with commercial experience who is looking to develop their skills in a supportive environment while working on a variety of business-critical projects.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design, develop and maintain modern web applications using C# and .NET.
    Work with users to understand requirements and develop practical software solutions.
    Design and maintain SQL databases that support business applications.
    Develop intuitive and user-friendly web interfaces using HTML and CSS.
    Maintain and enhance existing systems and software features.
    Troubleshoot software issues and continually improve application performance and usability.
    Work collaboratively within the IT team to deliver high-quality software solutions.Person Specification
    Essential

    Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
    Experience with C# and .NET through commercial work, personal projects or academic study.
    Knowledge of SQL databases and web technologies, including HTML and CSS.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    A keen interest in software development with a willingness to learn new technologies.
    Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Desirable

    Knowledge of ASP.NET or other .NET web technologies.
