How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Diesel Generator Field Service Engineer

    Location: Preston / North West
    Coverage: Field-based across the North West and surrounding regions
    Salary: £38,000 - £45,000 basic salary

    We are currently recruiting for an experienced Diesel Generator Field Service Engineer to join a respected specialist power business supporting customers across critical power, industrial, commercial and standby power environments.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who takes pride in their work, enjoys fault-finding and wants to be part of a knowledgeable and supportive service team.

    The Role

    As a Diesel Generator Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance, service and repair of diesel generators across customer sites throughout the North West and surrounding regions.

    You will work independently in the field, while also being supported by an experienced wider service team. The role will involve diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults, carrying out inspections, completing load testing, supporting basic commissioning and ensuring customers receive a reliable and professional service.

    Key Responsibilities

    Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on diesel generators

    Service and repair standby and prime power generator systems

    Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults

    Work on diesel engines across major OEMs

    Carry out control panel diagnostics and basic commissioning

    Complete load testing, inspections and compliance checks

    Produce clear and accurate service reports

    Communicate professionally with customers on site

    Take part in an on-call rota as part of the wider engineering team

    Requirements

    Proven experience servicing and repairing diesel generators

    Strong electrical bias with good mechanical understanding

    Experience working in a field service environment

    Confident working independently and managing your own workload

    Good fault-finding and diagnostic skills

    Professional, reliable and customer-focused approach

    Full UK driving licence
