How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Operations Chemist

    Salary – £28,527 - £35,659 per annum (plus benefits)
    Hours – 45 hours per week, typically 07:00 to 16:00
    Location & Postcode – Knottingley, West Yorkshire

    As an Operations Chemist at FCC Environment, you will be responsible for the chemical and physical testing of wastes received for treatment or transfer, along with associated residues and process control samples. You will also complete and maintain waste consignment and laboratory records to ensure compliance and accuracy.

    This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week.

    What will you be doing?

    - Inspect and analyse packaged waste received for processing.
    - Oversee waste processing, undertake analysis as required, and maintain accurate records.
    - Carry out waste processing operations.
    - Load and unload vehicles using a forklift truck.
    - Provide support to WTD clients/customers by listing, segregating, and labelling packaged chemical waste on their premises as required.
    - Provide the necessary information to ensure chemical waste can be transported safely in accordance with current legislation.
    - Ensure all labels and transport documentation, including waste lists where appropriate, are accurate, available, and compliant with current legislation.
    - Safely transport packaged chemical waste, as required, to permitted waste disposal sites in accordance with instructions from the Commercial Team.
    - Assist WTD drivers, as necessary, with the labelling and segregation of their loads.
    - Support the Sales Team, as required, by sampling incoming and outgoing loads.
    - Ensure all activities are carried out professionally, promoting a positive image of the company and adhering to company policies and procedures.

    What are we looking for?

    - Degree in Chemistry (or similar) or a minimum of an HND in Chemistry or a related subject
    - Experience of waste, wastewater or water analysis using spectrophotometric methods
    - Knowledge of hazardous waste classification and consignment systems (desirable)
    - Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
    - Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
    - Strong communication skills and confidence in liaising with stakeholders
    - Flexible approach to work, including overtime when required
    - Good problem-solving skills and ability to use initiative
