How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Structural Engineer
    Southampton
    Up to £45.00 per hour
    Immediate start available

    Experienced structural engineer sought to contribute to a significant RAAC survey project in Southampton. The initial contract period is set for two weeks, commencing on 13th July, with a strong likelihood of extension based on project needs. There may also be opportunities for night shift surveys, providing flexibility in working hours.

    Key Responsibilities;

    • Act as Project Engineer, leading efforts in conducting thorough surveys and data collection specifically for a large-scale RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) survey.
    • Conduct visual inspections from a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP), meticulously recording and photographing any defects found on RAAC panels to ensure comprehensive documentation.
    • Mark up engineering drawings with observations, ensuring that all findings are accurately labelled and included in detailed reports for client review.
    • Write and interpret reports that highlight key structural defects and observations, providing clear and actionable insights based on the data collected.
    • Assess and review constraints related to the installation of remedial structures, collaborating closely with the site team to navigate and overcome any challenges encountered during the survey process.
    • Evaluate the installation of remedial works to ensure structural adequacy, applying engineering principles to verify that all solutions meet safety and performance standards.

    Requirements;

    • Proven experience in surveying RAAC buildings, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).
    • A seasoned engineer with a meticulous eye for detail, committed to delivering high-quality outputs in all aspects of work.
    • Ideally, candidates should possess a degree in engineering from an accredited institution, demonstrating a solid foundation in structural engineering principles.
    • A strong understanding of key failure modes in structural materials, with the ability to apply engineering judgement to assess realistic deterioration scenarios.
    • Practical skills in translating theoretical designs into real-world applications, ensuring that engineering solutions are both feasible and effective.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to represent RCS to clients confidently, articulating technical concepts clearly and addressing any challenges that may arise.

    Nice to Have;

    • A proven track record of completing structural surveys and remediation designs across various building typologies, showcasing versatility and adaptability in different environments.
    • A willingness to support future projects across the UK, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional development and collaboration.
    • An interest in applying engineering principles to innovative designs and justifications, contributing to the advancement of structural engineering practices.
    • Strong report writing and presentation skills, with the potential for development in this area if needed.
    • A minimum of four years of experience is suggested to ensure exposure to a variety of structures and projects; however, candidates with less experience are encouraged to discuss their qualifications
