How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    The below job description outlines the position of: NavCom Field Service Engineer
     
    Typically, this person will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance, and repair of marine navigation and communication systems onboard a wide variety of vessels. Working independently or as part of a team, they will support retrofit projects, system upgrades, and fault-finding across the UK and overseas.
    HSB Technical's client is an established provider of marine communications and navigation solutions, delivering engineering services to commercial, leisure, defence, and offshore customers.
     
    Duties and Responsibilities of the NavCom Field Service Engineer:

    Carry out installation, commissioning, servicing, and repairs on marine navigation and communication equipment.
    Perform VDR Annual Performance Tests (VDR-APTs).
    Conduct GMDSS Radio Surveys.
    Install, maintain, and repair GMDSS communication systems.
    Install, maintain, and repair marine navigation equipment.
    Install, configure, and support VSAT satellite broadband systems.
    Complete retrofit projects, including full bridge installations and integrated navigation systems.
    Diagnose and resolve electrical, electronic, and communication system faults.
    Work independently or alongside other field service engineers on board a wide range of vessels.
    Complete service documentation and ensure work is carried out to the company and customer standards.
    Travel throughout the UK and overseas as required. Qualifications and Requirements for the NavCom Field Service Engineer:

    HNC, ONC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Marine Engineering or a related discipline.
    An IT or Engineering-based qualification is preferred.
    Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Marine Service Engineer.
    Strong knowledge of marine electrical and electronic systems.
    Experience working with marine navigation and communication equipment.
    Experience installing and maintaining VSAT satellite communication systems.
    Current UK driving licence.
    Valid passport with the ability to travel internationally.
    Able to pass a marine/offshore medical.
