How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    EC&I Hardware Engineer

Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire (Hybrid Working Available)
    Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum

    The Opportunity

Our client is continuing to grow, driven by an expanding pipeline of complex, bespoke engineering projects across a range of technically demanding industries. To support this growth, they are looking for an experienced EC&I Hardware Engineer to strengthen their engineering team.

This is an opportunity to work in a collaborative, project-driven environment where no two projects are the same. Unlike highly repetitive manufacturing environments, their work is varied and challenging, allowing engineers to contribute throughout the full project lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop tailored engineering solutions from concept through to manufacture, commissioning, and customer support.

The environment is fast-paced and delivery-focused, with priorities evolving as customer requirements change. As a result, they are seeking adaptable engineers who enjoy solving real-world technical challenges, managing multiple projects, and engaging with both customers and internal stakeholders.

    The Role

As an EC&I Hardware Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of electrical and control systems for highly engineered projects. Working alongside Functional Safety and Automation Engineers, you will help translate operational and safety requirements into practical, compliant hardware solutions.

    Key Responsibilities

Create electrical schematics and panel designs
    Produce EC&I engineering documentation
    Design control system architectures
Support compliance and technical assurance activities
Review designs against relevant engineering standards
    Work across multiple projects simultaneously
Support project delivery from concept through to manufacture and commissioning
Provide technical support during commissioning and customer-facing activities as required

    Essential Skills & Experience

Proven experience within EC&I / Electrical Hardware Design
Ability to design electrical systems and produce detailed schematics
    Strong technical problem-solving skills
HNC, HND or higher qualification in a relevant engineering discipline

    Desirable Skills & Experience

Experience reviewing and assuring engineering designs and documentation
Exposure to safety-critical industries such as:

    Nuclear
    Defence
    Energy
    Process industries

    Working Arrangements

Hybrid working available, with flexibility to work from home 1–2 days per week
Travel and site work will vary depending on project requirements and project lifecycle stages
Occasional UK-wide travel for commissioning activities and customer support
    Base Location:
    Sheffield, South Yorkshire (S9 area)

    Why Apply?

Work on complex, bespoke engineering projects rather than repetitive production work
Gain exposure across the full project lifecycle
Collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams
Contribute to solutions within technically challenging and safety-critical environments
Join a growing organisation with a strong pipeline of future work and excellent career development opportunities
If you're an adaptable and technically capable EC&I Engineer looking to make a tangible impact on challenging engineering projects, we'd love to hear from you.
