How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    FPGA design engineer

    Location: Cambridge Job type: Permanent, full time Salary: Competitive, plus benefits Hours: Flexible working available, with up to three days per week from home

    The role

    We are recruiting an FPGA Design Engineer on behalf of a world-leading technology business based in Cambridge. This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled FPGA design team, contributing modules to a shared library used across the full product range. You will write timing constraints, interpret timing reports, and where required, modify designs to close timing. The role involves close collaboration with hardware, software, and mechanical engineers throughout the product development lifecycle, making it an excellent opportunity for an experienced FPGA engineer who values technical rigour and a collaborative working culture.

    Main responsibilities

    * Contribute FPGA modules to a company-wide library, written to an established coding standard

    * Write and review timing constraints and ensure these are met

    * Design for low power

    * Write module specifications and review drafts

    * Carry out code and documentation reviews

    * Work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle

    Skills/experience

    * Proficiency in SystemVerilog and Python

    * RTL verification experience

    * Strong understanding of timing constraints and closure

    * Familiarity with the Linux command line

    * Experience with version control software such as SVN or Git

    * Working knowledge of Markdown

    * Experience with the cocotb Python library (desirable)

    * Committed to engineering best practices in FPGA development

    * Able to work effectively within an established team, following existing frameworks and contributing to continuous improvement
