How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Primary Step Out Tutor (Supply)

Sheffield | Up to £240 per day (Dependent on Experience, Qualifications & Assignment)

Tradewind Recruitment is currently recruiting experienced and compassionate Primary Step Out Tutors to provide high-quality, personalised education to primary-aged pupils across Sheffield, working outside of the traditional classroom setting. This rewarding supply opportunity offers flexibility while making a genuine difference to children who require additional support to re-engage with learning.

As a Primary Step Out Tutor, you will work on a 1:1 basis with pupils across a range of settings, including homes, community venues and alternative provisions, delivering bespoke educational support tailored to each child's individual needs. Due to the nature of the role and travelling between multiple locations, candidates must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle.

    The Role

You will be supporting primary-aged pupils who are unable to access mainstream education for a variety of reasons. Many of the children you will work with have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

As part of a Primary Step Out programme, you will help pupils rebuild confidence, develop positive learning behaviours and make academic progress with the aim of supporting their successful reintegration into mainstream education where appropriate.

Working closely with schools, local authorities and families, you will deliver engaging, personalised learning programmes designed to meet each child's academic, social and emotional needs. Tuition will focus primarily on core subjects while adapting learning to suit each pupil's individual ability and learning style.

    Responsibilities

Deliver engaging 1:1 tuition to primary-aged pupils, tailored to their individual learning needs.
Travel to pupils at a variety of locations across Sheffield, including homes, community venues and alternative provisions.
Plan and adapt lessons to meet the requirements of pupils with SEND, SEMH and EHCPs.
Deliver engaging lessons across the primary curriculum, with a particular focus on English and Mathematics.
Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement, confidence and progress.
Support pupils academically while promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience and positive behaviours.
Monitor progress and maintain accurate records of learning and achievement.
Work collaboratively with schools, parents, carers and other professionals to support each child's educational journey.
Contribute towards reintegration plans where appropriate, helping pupils transition successfully back into mainstream education.
Implement effective behaviour management strategies using a nurturing and trauma-informed approach.
Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection.

    The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for individuals who:

Have experience working with primary-aged pupils.
Have experience supporting children with SEND, SEMH or additional learning needs.
Have a sound understanding of the primary curriculum.
Can confidently differentiate learning to meet individual needs.
Are patient, empathetic and passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
Can build positive professional relationships with pupils, families and education professionals.
Have excellent communication and organisational skills.
Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle, as travel between multiple tutoring locations is essential.
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or have significant tutoring or teaching experience (desirable).

    Pay & Assignment Information

Tutors can earn up to £240 per day, with pay determined on a case-by-case basis. Higher rates are typically offered to candidates who can demonstrate:

Relevant experience working within Primary Alternative Provision, SEND and/or SEMH settings.
Recognised teaching qualifications, such as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
A strong track record of delivering successful 1:1 interventions and personalised learning. The final rate of pay will ultimately depend on several factors, including the individual needs of the child, the expectations and complexity of the assignment, your experience and qualifications, your availability, and the budget allocated by the Alternative Provision or commissioning organisation.

    What We Offer

Competitive daily rates of up to £240 per day.
Flexible supply opportunities to suit your schedule.
A dedicated Tradewind Recruitment consultant to support you throughout your placements.
Access to free, accredited CPD through The National College.
Opportunities to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children who need additional educational support.
Weekly pay and a straightforward payroll process.
