How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    DESIGN MANAGER

Building Services | Critical Infrastructure | Permanent

Mech Electrics are proud to be representing a highly respected engineering and construction business as they continue to strengthen their in-house Design team.

This isn't a role where you'll simply coordinate drawings or chase consultants for information.

We're looking for an experienced Mechanical or Electrical Design professional who understands how successful projects are delivered and wants to play a key role in shaping them from concept through to completion.

Ideally, you'll have built your career with an M&E or Building Services contractor, giving you a practical understanding of installation, sequencing, procurement and project delivery. However, we're equally keen to hear from Design Managers currently working within consultancy who have developed strong relationships with contractors and enjoy seeing their designs successfully delivered on site.

Our client delivers technically challenging projects directly for end-user clients, frequently taking responsibility for the complete construction package, including the building envelope, MEP services and bespoke off-site manufactured solutions produced within their own manufacturing facility.

This role sits at the heart of that process.

You'll become the link between clients, consultants, pre-construction, commercial and operational delivery teams, ensuring every design is technically robust, commercially viable and fully coordinated before work begins on site.

    The Role

Working closely with Pre-Construction, Operations and Commercial teams, you'll manage the design process across multiple live and upcoming projects from initial concept through to construction and commissioning.

You'll provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, coordinating internal and external design teams whilst ensuring designs remain practical, buildable and aligned with programme, cost and client expectations.

    Key Responsibilities

    *

Manage the design process from concept through to construction.

    *

Coordinate Mechanical, Electrical and multidisciplinary design teams.

    *

Review technical drawings, specifications and design deliverables.

    *

Chair design coordination meetings with clients, consultants and project teams.

    *

Ensure designs are fully coordinated before construction commences.

    *

Support Pre-Construction and Commercial teams during tender submissions.

    *

Drive value engineering and practical design solutions.

    *

Work closely with Operations to ensure seamless project delivery.

    *

Coordinate specialist suppliers and off-site manufacturing requirements.

    *

Identify design risks and resolve technical issues early.

    *

Ensure compliance with current regulations, standards and client requirements.

    *

Support commissioning and project handover where required.

    We're Looking For

You'll already have a strong background within Mechanical or Electrical Building Services and understand how successful projects move from design into delivery.

Your experience may have been gained as a:

    *

    Design Manager

    *

    Senior Design Engineer

    *

    Mechanical Design Engineer

    *

    Electrical Design Engineer

    *

    Technical Manager

    *

    Project Engineer

    You'll also possess:

    *

A Mechanical or Electrical Building Services background.

    *

Contractor experience is preferred, although consultancy candidates with significant contractor interface are encouraged to apply.

    *

Strong understanding of coordinated building services design.

    *

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

    *

Commercial awareness and practical construction knowledge.

    *

The confidence to challenge designs whilst maintaining collaborative relationships.

    *

A desire to be involved in the full project lifecycle rather than purely producing design information.

    The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a privately owned engineering business with an outstanding reputation for delivering technically demanding projects throughout the UK.

You'll work alongside highly experienced operational, commercial and pre-construction professionals, helping shape projects from the earliest client engagement through to successful completion.

If you're looking for a position that offers genuine technical influence, close collaboration with delivery teams and long-term career progression within a growing business, we'd welcome a confidential conversation.

Excellent salary and benefits package available.
