How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Project Manager – Tunnelling & Underground Transmission Infrastructure

    Location: Hybrid with UK travel

    Salary: Competitive + Excellent Benefits

    About the Company

Our client is a respected engineering consultancy delivering complex infrastructure projects across the UK's electricity transmission sector. Working alongside major network owners and principal contractors, they provide specialist engineering and project delivery expertise on some of the country's most technically challenging programmes.

With a strong pipeline of work supporting the modernisation and expansion of the UK's electricity network, they are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of major underground transmission and tunnelling projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an organisation that combines the flexibility of a growing consultancy with the opportunity to influence nationally significant infrastructure schemes.

    The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager with a proven background delivering tunnelling or underground infrastructure projects, ideally within the electricity transmission or utilities sector.

This is not a traditional construction Project Manager position. The successful candidate will understand the unique challenges associated with underground cable routes, shafts, tunnels and associated civil engineering works. Experience working on major cable tunnel projects such as London Power Tunnels or similar utility, transport or infrastructure tunnelling schemes would be highly advantageous.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams through the full project lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially and in accordance with programme expectations while maintaining strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.

    Key Responsibilities

    *

Manage the successful delivery of underground transmission and tunnelling projects from feasibility through to completion.

    *

Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors and specialist consultants.

    *

Develop and manage project programmes, budgets, risks and resources.

    *

Lead client meetings and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.

    *

Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards.

    *

Monitor project performance, commercial objectives and contractual obligations.

    *

Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.

    *

Produce regular progress reports and provide strategic updates to senior stakeholders.

    *

Support the continued growth of the business by identifying new opportunities within existing client accounts.

    About You

We would like to hear from Project Managers who have experience delivering complex underground infrastructure projects.

Ideally you will have experience in one or more of the following:

    *

    Electricity transmission cable tunnel projects.

    *

    Utility or power infrastructure tunnelling.

    *

    Large diameter shaft construction.

    *

    Underground civil engineering.

    *

Major infrastructure tunnelling projects within rail, highways, water or energy.

    You will also possess:

    *

Demonstrable experience managing complex engineering projects.

    *

Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial project delivery.

    *

Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills.

    *

    Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.

    *

A structured and proactive approach to programme, cost and risk management.

    *

APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent project management qualification is desirable.

    *

An engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.

    Why Apply?

This is a rare opportunity to work on specialist underground transmission infrastructure at a time of significant investment across the UK electricity network.

    The role offers:

    *

    High-profile infrastructure projects.

    *

    Hybrid working with flexibility.

    *

    Long-term career progression.

    *

A collaborative and technically focused environment.

    *

    Competitive salary and benefits.

    *

The opportunity to influence some of the UK's most complex underground energy projects.

If you have experience delivering tunnelling or underground infrastructure projects and are looking to play a key role in the future of the UK's electricity transmission network, we would be delighted to hear from you
