How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Science Technology Graduate Programme

Salary: £37,476 p.a. inclusive of London Allowance

    2-year fixed term

    London, UK

    Summary:

The MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) is a biomedical research institute where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine.

The Science Technology Graduate Programme offers aspiring scientists the opportunity to work across the LMS’s portfolio of research facilities to develop their technical expertise through high-quality training in cutting-edge biomedical research technologies. In addition, the programme supports the professional development of scientists by teaching them research facility management and offering a variety of training courses, workshops, and other growth opportunities.

We are looking for two talented graduates who hold a BSc, but do not hold either a MSc or MSci, in a relevant scientific discipline to join our Proteomics and Metabolomics Facilities. In our Proteomics Facility, one graduate will be introduced to state-of-the-art mass spectrometry, sample preparation and bioinformatics, enabling them to develop expertise in characterising complex proteomes to unravel cellular mechanisms at the functional level. In our Metabolomics Facility, one graduate will be introduced to mass spectrometry-based approaches to analyse small molecules (polar metabolites, drugs, and lipids) and study metabolism at the cellular level in biological samples.

At the start of the programme, Science Technology Graduates will be assigned to a single research facility, where they will undertake most of their work. Subsequently, they will have the opportunity to interact with other research facilities to broaden their knowledge and practical experience. Graduates will also participate in developing facility methods and techniques, and in improving the Institute’s environmental sustainability.

These positions offer graduates a host of benefits, including a defined benefit pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement, and access to employee shopping and travel discounts.

These positions require the post-holders to work full-time, on-site, either in the laboratory or in the office as required, with no opportunity for remote work.

These positions do not meet the criteria for Skilled Worker sponsorship; therefore, we are unable to sponsor applicants who are not eligible to work in the UK.
