How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Role: Learning Support Mentor - Secondary
    Location: Brighton and Hove
    Contract: Full-Time / Part-Time
    Start Date: September 2026
    Daily Rate: £92.63 – £99.76

    Supply Desk is working in partnership with a range of welcoming and inclusive secondary schools across Brighton and Hove, who are seeking dedicated and resilient Learning Support Mentors to join their teams from September 2026. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support pupils with additional needs, helping them access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential within a secondary school environment.

    About the Role

    As a Learning Support Mentor, you will work with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, providing consistent academic, emotional, and behavioural support. You will play a key role in helping pupils engage positively with their learning, develop independence, and build the skills needed to succeed in school.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide targeted support for students with SEN, SEMH, or additional learning needs within a secondary school setting
    • Support emotional regulation, behaviour, and classroom engagement
    • Assist students in accessing the curriculum and adapting learning tasks where required
    • Build positive, trusting relationships based on consistency, patience, and clear boundaries
    • Use restorative, trauma-informed, and positive behaviour strategies where appropriate
    • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
    • Promote confidence, independence, resilience, and positive peer interaction

    Candidate Profile

    • Experience supporting young people with SEN, SEMH, behaviour, or additional needs
    • Background in education, mentoring, youth work, care, sports coaching, or support work is desirable
    • Calm, patient, resilient, and confident when managing challenging behaviour
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
    • Ability to build positive relationships and support emotional development
    • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning

    Requirements

    • Relevant experience working with young people in education, care, mentoring, or support settings
    • Understanding of SEN/SEMH needs and behaviour support strategies is desirable
    • Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
    • Two years’ worth of professional references
    • Right to work in the UK
